Written by: Jason Green
Orlando Magic (16-22 SU, 15-22-1 ATS, 17-21 O/U) at L.A. Lakers (14-26 SU, 18-21-1 ATS, 24-15-1 O/U)
NBA: Sunday, January 8, 2016 at 10:30 p.m. ET
The Line: Lakers -1.5
The Magic have lost four of their last five games, including their last two, and they sit in the 8th spot in the Eastern Conference. They have failed to score over 93 points in either of their last two games and their offense has been the issue this season only ranking 27th in the league in ppg. Orlando has failed to cover the spread in four of their last five road games facing the Lakers.
After a promising start the Lakers hit the skids with only two wins in December. However, they have won two of their last three games. L.A. is three games out of the 8th spot in the West. Their offense has been respectable on the season, but the D has been the main problem for the young squad only ranking 26th in the league in opponents’ ppg.
Play well the whole game
The Magic played well in the first half in their last game, which was a 100-93 loss to the Houston Rockets, where they took an eight-pt lead at halftime. However, they were outscored by 12 points in the 3rd quarter and ended up and after scoring 52 points in the first half they only scored 41 in the 2nd half. Orlando did not have a good shooting game with a FG% of 41.8% from the floor. Aaron Gordon and Serge Ibaka has pretty good games combining for 35 points, but they did not get much help. Evan Fournier (17.5 ppg) leads the team in scoring, but has struggled with his shot in the last two games after missing five games. This season the Magic have a better record on the road (9-9) than at home (7-13).
Light it up young Lakers
The Lakers have a talented, but young squad and in their last game they lit it up trouncing the Miami Heat 127-100. They were legit on both ends of the floor shooting 50% from the field and holding the Heat to 41.3% shooting. L.A. really lit it up in the 2nd half outscoring the Heat 69-44. D’Angelo Russel and Luol Deng, who had 14 boards in the game, each went for 19 points and super 6th man Lou Williams went for 24 points. Even in the win Nick Young struggled only going for five points on 1/9 shooting and he and Russell only combined to make two of their 10 3-pointers.
This is the first game between the Magic and Lakers this season. The Lakers are 9-10 at home this season and in winning two of their last three games both wins came In La La Land.
The Orlando Magic Are:
- 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall
- 1-4 ATS in their last 5 after allowing 100 points or more in their previous game
- 1-4 ATS in their last 5 when their opponent scores 100 points or more in their previous game
- 7-18-1 ATS in their last 26 games playing on 1 days rest
The L.A. Lakers are:
- 5-2 ATS in their last 7 vs. NBA Southeast
The Magic have been decent road team this season, but their offense has struggled in the last couple of games, which is good for the Lakers with their issues on D. At home the Lakers will get their 2nd straight W and they will cover the spread as well.
PICK: Lakers -1.5
I dig every sport and the NFL is my favorite. My team is the Redskins and my 2nd favorite is whoever is playing the Cowboys! I am a great handicapper and if you don’t believe me just ask. I don’t just write about betting on games I actually bet on them and I have done well, which is why it is a good idea to follow my picks.
