Written by: Nikhil Kalro
Miami Heat (11-28, 18-21 ATS) at Golden State Warriors (32-6, 15-22 ATS)
NBA: Tuesday, January 10 at 10.30 PM ET, Oracle Arena, Oakland, California
The Line: Golden State -15.5
The struggling Miami Heat travel to the Oracle Arena for a match-up against the Golden State Warriors on Tuesday night. The Heat have lost eight in nine, their latest result a 98-86 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers. The Warriors beat the Sacramento Kings 117-106 for their 32nd regular-season win.
Heat lose eight in nine
The Miami Heat’s season is spiralling downwards, and they don’t have too many who can help overturn their fortune. They lost eight of their last nine games when the Los Angeles Clippers beat them 98-86. Goran Dragic scored 24 points, while Hassan Whiteside posted a double-double on his return after missing four games with a right retinal contusion, going for 15 points and 13 rebounds.
The Heat were hurt by the Clippers hitting clutch, tough shots just when they had a look at an opening, including one from JJ Redick at the end of the third from a Brandon Bass steal. “Those are tough shots,” Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said. “That’s a dying breed in this league, guys that can come off screens full speed, catch, shoot from 20-24 feet. He’s really created a great niche for him, and it helps that basketball team.”
The game included three technical fouls, and a fragrant-2 foul on Dion Waiters for hitting Redick on the head in the third quarter. Spoelstra and Dragic also got technicals. The Heat managed to shoot 37% from the field.
Warriors bounce back from Grizzlies shock
The Golden State Warriors bounced back from the loss against the Memphis Grizzlies with a 117-106 loss to the Sacramento Kings. The Warriors scored 51 first-half points, something rather unusual for the best offensive team in the NBA. But came out after the half hot, cut a seven-point deficit and scored 39 in the third quarter.
Stephen Curry scored 30 points, including five three-pointers, Kevin Durant added 28 points and seven rebounds. Klay Thompson scored 18 points. “It’s deflating for other teams when we can get stops and protect the rim, get steals, force them into tough shots and tough misses and on the other end we’re just running it right back down the paint,” Curry said. “We have to allow that part of our game to shine.”
The Warriors are first in the NBA in points scored and assists per game (117.5) and (31.1) respectively. They concede 105.7 points per game, 20th in the league.
Miami Heat are:
- 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall.
- 1-4 ATS in their last 5 against Western Conference opponents
- 0-4 ATS in their last 4 Tuesday games.
- 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games playing on 1 days rest.
Golden State Warriors are:
- 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games following a straight up win of more than 10 points.
How will the Miami Heat compete against this Warriors team? They’re plagued by injuries and don’t have anywhere near the offensive prowess they need to stay in touch. The Warriors will near their average for the season, 117, and the Heat will struggle to score 100. As a result, this should be an easy ATS win for the Warriors.
The Pick: Golden State Warriors -15.5
