Written by: George Middleton
Washington Wizards (19-18) at Boston Celtics (23-15)
NBA: Wednesday, January 11, 2016, at 8:00 p.m. ET
Line: Boston -5.5
The Washington Wizards travel to TD Garden to take on the Boston Celtics for a Wednesday night contest. On Nov. 9, the Wizards beat the Celtics 118-93. Otto Porter Jr. led the Wizards with 34 points and 14 rebounds. Washington has won three games in a row, and Boston has won four of their last five. It’s unclear if Avery Bradley will play as he is dealing with an Achilles injury. The matchup features two of the elite point guards in the Eastern Conference. Isaiah Thomas leads Boston as he is averaging 28 points and 6.1 assists. John Wall is averaging 23.2 points, 10.2 assists, and 2.3 steals for Washington. Can Wall lead the Wizards to a huge road win?
Wizards come back against shorthanded Bulls
The Washington Wizards beat the Chicago Bulls 101-99 on Tuesday night. Washington trailed by 12 at the half before they outscored Chicago 52-38 in the second half. Chicago was as shorthanded as they can get with Jimmy Butler, Dwyane Wade, and Nikola Mirotic missing the game. Wall led the Wizards with 26 points and 14 assists. Bradley Beal had 19 points on 7-of-15 shooting. Chicago shot 40 percent from the field while Washington shot 51 percent. Markieff Morris finished with 19 points on 8-of-12 shooting in only 22 minutes. The Bulls out-rebounded the Wizards 44-42 in the game.
Washington had some trouble containing Denzel Valentine who had 19 points on 5-of-11 from 3-point range off the bench. Marcin Gortat added 10 points and 12 rebounds. The Wizards improved to 15-6 at home this season.
Celtics blow big lead
The Boston Celtics lost 114-106 to the Toronto Raptors on Tuesday night. Boston lost the contest despite leading by nine at the half. Toronto outscored Boston 68-41 in the final 24 minutes. Isaiah Thomas led the Celtics with 27 points and seven assists. Al Horford went for 14 points and nine rebounds. Both teams shot 47 percent from the field. The difference in the contest came on the glass where the Raptors out-rebounded the Celtics 50-33. The Celtics had trouble stopping DeMar DeRozan who had 41 points and 13 rebounds. Marcus Smart finished with 16 points, five rebounds, and four steals in place of Bradley.
Gerald Green added 14 points and five rebounds off the bench. Toronto had 18 turnovers and Boston committed 15. Boston fell to 12-9 on the road this season.
The Washington Wizards are:
- 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games vs. a team with a winning straight up record.
- 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a ATS loss.
- 8-2 ATS in their last 10 vs. Eastern Conference.
- 10-4 ATS in their last 14 games overall.
The Boston Celtics are:
- 0-3-1 ATS in their last 4 vs. Eastern Conference.
- 1-4 ATS in their last 5 home games vs. a team with a losing road record.
- 1-4 ATS in their last 5 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of less than .400.
The Celtics have been as good as anyone in the Eastern Conference over the last few weeks. Washington will have the edge at shooting guard with Beal as Bradley will likely miss the game. Thomas will likely lead the Celtics to a win but the Wizards will hang around.
The pick: Washington
