Golden State Warriors vs. Detroit Pistons, 01/12/17 – Prediction
Written by: Jason Green
Detroit Pistons (18-22 SU, 18-22 ATS, 18-22 O/U) at Golden State Warriors (33-6 SU, 15-23-1 ATS, 18-21 O/U)
NBA: Thursday, January 12, 2016 at 10:30 p.m. ET
The Line: Warriors -12.5
The Pistons had their two-game winning streak snapped in their last game and they head to Nor Cal as big time betting underdogs facing the Warriors. Detroit has lost six of their last 10 games and they are 2.5 games out of the 8th spot in the Eastern Conference. They have one of the best defenses in the league, ranking 4th in opponents’ ppg, which they have to play since they only rank 24th in ppg.
The Pistons’ D will be put to the test in this game facing a Warriors team that is the highest scoring team in the league. The Warriors have won two in a row since their loss to the Memphis Grizzlies, which was at home. Speaking of home the Warriors are 17-3 at home while the Pistons are only 8-13 on the road.
Falling apart in the 4th quarter
The Pistons looked as if they would get a Nor Cal win in their last game facing the Sacramento Kings, but they lost 100-94 after falling apart in the 4th quarter being outscored 32-17. In the game neither team shot the rock well, but Detroit failed to play solid perimeter D allowing the Kings to shoot 54.2% from behind the 3-pt arc. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope was the high scorer for the Pistons going for 21 points and Reggie Jackson went for 19. Big Man Andre Drummond, who ranks 2nd in the league in rpg did grab 11 boards, but only scored nine points. The Pistons blew an 18-point lead in the Sacto game and if they get any lead on the Warriors they cannot fall apart again.
Playing pretty good D
The Warriors did not have the best shooting night in their last game, but they played pretty good D in their 107-95 win over the Miami Heat. Golden State outscored Miami by 12 points in the 3rd quarter and for the game they shot 45.3% and the Heat shot 42.7%. One of the reasons the Warriors won is that they held Miami to a 20% shooting from beyond the 3-pt arc. Kevin Durant and Steph Curry combined for 52 points and GS won pretty easily even though Klay Thomson (21.3 ppg) did not play to rest. He will play in this game and for the Pistons to have any chance they have to keep he, Durant, and Curry from shooting a solid FG%.
The Detroit Pistons Are:
- 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600
The Golden State Warriors are:
- 7-18-1 ATS in their last 26 games following a ATS loss
- 0-5 ATS in their last 5 home games
- 0-6 ATS in their last 6 games overall
- 0-7 ATS in their last 7 games following a straight up win
the Warriors have been winning, but not big and they have been a terrible bet as of late. The Pistons won’t win this one, but they will cover getting 12.5 points even on the road.
PICK: Pistons +12.5
I dig every sport and the NFL is my favorite. My team is the Redskins and my 2nd favorite is whoever is playing the Cowboys! I am a great handicapper and if you don’t believe me just ask. I don’t just write about betting on games I actually bet on them and I have done well, which is why it is a good idea to follow my picks.
