NC State Wolfpack (12-4) at Boston College Eagles (8-8)
NCAA: Wednesday, January 11, 2016, at 9:00 p.m. ET
Line: NC State -6
The North Carolina State Wolfpack hit the road to take on the Boston College Eagles for an ACC matchup on Wednesday night. NC State has lost two of their last three games since beginning the year 11-2. Boston College has lost two in a row against Duke and Wake Forest on the road. Freshman Dennis Smith Jr. leads the Wolfpack as he is averaging 19.1 points, 6.4 assists, and 4.2 rebounds. Boston College is led by Jerome Robinson who is averaging 20.6 points and 4.8 rebounds. NC State is 32nd in the nation in scoring (82.6 ppg), while Boston College is only 163rd in points (74.6 ppg). Can Smith Jr. lead the Wolfpack to a road win against the Eagles?
Wolfpack can’t hang against the Tar Heels
The NC State Wolfpack lost 107-56 against the no. 14 North Carolina Tar Heels on Sunday. The game was originally schedule for Saturday but it was postponed due to weather issues. The Tar Heels jumped out to a 26-4 lead to begin the game and they never looked back. Smith Jr. led the Wolfpack with 11 points (4/11 fg) and five assists but he also had six turnovers. Torin Dorn had 11 points and six assists in 24 minutes. North Carolina shot 49 percent from the field and North Carolina State shot 37 percent.
The Wolfpack had trouble containing Justin Jackson who had 21 points on 6-of-11 threes in only 23 minutes. The Tar Heels out-rebounded the Wolfpack 50-36 in the game. Maverick Rowan added 11 points in 19 minutes off the bench.
Eagles fall to Blue Devils
On Saturday, the Boston College Eagles lost 93-82 to the no. 8 Duke Blue Devils. Duke took control with a 53-34 first half and they never looked back. Robinson led the Eagles with 21 points on 8-of-18 shooting. Ky Bowman had 19 points on 8-of-15 shooting in the loss. Boston College shot 52 percent from the field and Duke shot 55 percent. Strangely enough the Eagles out-rebounded the Blue Devils 36-27. The Eagles had trouble containing Jayson Tatum who had 22 points and six rebounds. A.J. Turner added 13 points, six rebounds, and five assists.
Turnovers were certainly a key in the game as the Eagles had 21 and the Blue Devils committed 16. Mo Jeffers added eight points and 12 rebounds.
The NC State Wolfpack are:
- 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a straight up loss of more than 20 points.
- 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games as a favorite.
- 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games overall.
- 23-11-2 ATS in their last 36 games following a ATS loss.
The Boston College Eagles are:
- 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games as an underdog of 0.5-6.5.
- 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games after allowing more than 90 points in their previous game.
Boston College is hungry for a big win and this is there a chance. Unfortunately they will be going up against one of the nation’s best players in Smith Jr. Look for the incredible freshman to have a big night here. The Wolfpack are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games overall.
The pick: NC State
