The Line: Gonzaga -22
Loyola Marymount snapped their three-game skid to get their first WCC win in their last game, but to get their 2nd they will have to hand 5th ranked Gonzaga their 1st loss of the season. Oh yea, they also have to do that on the road where the Lions are 2-2 this season. LMU is not a high scoring team, but they have a solid defense. However, that D failed them in losing three straight to start the conference season where they gave up at least 71 points in each game.
Gonzaga is rolling winning their first 15 games of the season and in their three conference wins they have won all by at least 15 ppg. The Bulldogs are a very balanced team that ranks 16th in the nation in scoring and 40th in opponents ppg, so LMU has their hands full to say the least. Gonzaga has covered the spread in nine of their last 12 home games facing LMU.
Get back to playing good D
LMU got in the WCC win column in their 66-56 win over Santa Clara because they got back to playing solid defense. In the game they held Santa Clara to 36.8% shooting, they shot 45.6% from the floor, and they outscored them by 10 points in the 2nd half. The Lions also forced 19 turnovers and held SC to a 3-pt FG% of only 26.7%. LMU used a balanced team to beat Santa Clara, as only two players scored in double figures in starter Shamar Johnson, who went for 12 points and also grabbed eight boards, and 6’11” reserve C Stefan Jovanovic, who went for 14 points. Three players for the Lions average in double figures led by Brandon Brown and while he is only averaging 13.9 ppg it is key LMU plays good D and not get into a shootout.
Great shooting game
In Gonzaga’s last game they beat San Francisco 95-80 where they shot a scorching 61% from the floor and USF shot 46.9%. What is even more impressive about Gonzaga’s solid shooting game is that they only shot 30% from beyond the 3-pt arc and that dragged their overall FG% down. Nigel Williams-Goss was HUGE in the game going for a career high 36 points and two other starters scored in double figures. Goss leads the high scoring offense of the Bulldogs and they have five players that are averaging in double figures. On top of that Goss and 2nd leading scorer Przemek Karnowski are both averaging at least six rpg.
The Loyola Maryland Lions are:
- 3-7 ATS in their last 10 Thursday games
The Gonzaga Bulldogs are:
- 4-0 ATS in their last 4 home games
- 10-1 ATS in their last 11 vs. West Coast
- 21-6 ATS in their last 27 games overall
- 13-3 ATS in their last 16 games vs. a team with a winning straight up record
The Zags are giving a lot of points, but they will dominate LMU in their house and easily win, stay undefeated, and cover the big spread.
PICK: Gonzaga -22
I dig every sport and the NFL is my favorite. My team is the Redskins and my 2nd favorite is whoever is playing the Cowboys! I am a great handicapper and if you don’t believe me just ask. I don’t just write about betting on games I actually bet on them and I have done well, which is why it is a good idea to follow my picks.
