Line: Georgia -1
The Georgia Bulldogs and TCU Horned Frogs will meet up on the field in the Autozone Liberty Bowl in Memphis, Tennessee. The Bulldogs were able to put together a three game win streak at the end of the season, but it came to an end with a 28-27 loss against Georgia teach the final week of the season. The Frogs went back and forth between wins and losses their last five games of the year, ending with a 30-6 loss against the Kansas State Wildcats.
Georgia Blows Fourth Quarter Lead Against Georgia Tech
The Bulldogs went into the final game of the regular season looking for their fourth consecutive win. They went into halftime knotted up at 14 with Georgia Tech and were able to put up 13 unanswered points in the third quarter. The Yellow Jackets put together a fourth quarter come back, topped off with a six yard touchdown with :30 seconds left to wrap up the 28-27 win. Freshman quarterback Jacob Eason was limited in the game to just 139 passing yards on 14 of 27 passing. Eason was able to toss the ball for a touchdown, but he also through two interceptions. Georgia was able to run for 263 rushing yards, but allowed Tech to run for 226.
Eason finished the year with a total of 2,266 yards, and 14 touchdowns while completing 192 of 349 passes. Isaiah McKenzie was his most popular target this year, catching 40 passes for 530 receiving yards and seven touchdowns. Nick Chubb was the leading rusher for the Dogs, racking up 988 yards and crossing the goal line seven times on 207 touches. Georgia was able to find the end zone for an average of 24 points per contest, averaging 195 passing yards per game to go along with 186.5 on the ground. The Dogs Defense was able to hold their opponents to 24.1 points per week.
Frogs Get Horned By Kansas State
The TCU Horned Frogs had the chance to win their final two games with a victory against Kansas State in the season Finale, but they also had an opportunity to go undefeated this season. The Frogs missed out on both chances. Texas Christian went into the locker room down 10-6 at halftime and were out scored 21-0 through the second half. The Horned Frogs were held to just 280 total yards of offense while the defense gave up 495 to the Wildcats. TCU lost the first down battle 21-15, as well as time of possession 34:34 to 25:26.
Junior quarterback Kenny Hill was able to put up solid numbers this season, tossing the ball for 3,062 yards and 15 touchdowns while completing 60.8 percent of his attempts. His down fall was making poor decisions under pressure which led to being picked off 13 times. Kyle Hicks was the leading rusher for the Frogs, racking up 954 yards and crossing the goal line 12 times on 188 carries. Taj Williams was the go to man through the air with 702 receiving yards and five touchdowns off 39 receptions. TCU was able to average 278.3 passing and 196.7 rushing yards to go along with 31.7 points per game this season. The defense was good enough to keep their opponents in check for 27.8 points per game, not exactly an easy task in their conference.
- 2-4 ATS in their previous 6 games.
- The total has stayed under in 14 of their previous 19 games.
- 2-6 ATS in their previous 8 games.
- The total has stayed under in 6 of their previous 7 games.
Both of these teams started the season with higher expectations then what was accomplished, and this is what it has led to. TCU is still waiting to see just how healed up Hill is to determine if he will even be a factor after sitting out the Kansas State game. Playing Georgia is simple, stop the run. The hard part, stopping the run. Chubb and Michel have been able to run through their opponents this season, but the Frogs have had plenty of time to come up with a plan to make Eason beat them throwing the ball. I flat out don’t think they can do it.
Pick: Georgia -1
