Written by: Alex Alarcon
Baltimore Ravens (8-7) at Cincinnati Bengals (5-9-1)
Game Time: Sunday, Jan. 1, Paul Brown Stadium, Cincinnati, 1pmET
Line: Cincinnati -2.5
The Baltimore Ravens are coming off a heartbreaking playoff hope loss to rivals Pittsburgh Steelers as they look to end on a good note in Cincinnati Sunday night against the Bengals.
Could Not Finish…
The Ravens could not hold a 10 point lead in the 4th quarter, as the Steelers walked all over them for the division title. Joe Flacco finished with 262 yards through the air for Baltimore last week. He completed 30 passes out of 44 attempts for a 68% completion percentage.
The Ravens were led in rushing by Kenneth Dixon, who finished with 57 yards on 12 rushes. He ended the contest with an average of 5 yards per carry. Steve Smith was the team leader in receiving with a total of 79 yards and 7 receptions. He finished the game with an average of 11 yards per reception.
As a team in that game, Baltimore got a total of 22 first downs. Of those first downs, 9 came on the ground while 11 came through the air. They ran 72 total plays for 368 yards for the game. The Ravens ran for 122 yards on 26 attempts.
Injuries and Poor Defense
It has been a rough season for the Bengals as key injuries and an unsuccessful offense has led them to a possible ending of a 5-10-1 record.
Cincinnati averages 20 points per game this season on offense, which ranks them 24th in the league. In the passing department, they complete 23 passes per game on 36 attempts for a 64% completion percentage.
They throw for 248 yards through the air per game, ranking them 16th. The Bengals run for an average of 108 yards per game on 27 attempts for an average of 4 yards per carry this season, which ranks them 18th on the ground. They also run 66 plays per game and average 5.4 yards per play for a total of 356 yards per game, ranking them 14th in the league on offense.
The Bengals get an average of 21 first downs per game, which ranks 12th. They average 47.1 penalty yards per game via 5.7 penalties, ranking them 30th in the NFL.
- 8-0 ATS last 8 vs. NFC North.
- 5-1 ATS last 6 vs. AFC.
- 1-5 ATS last 6 following an ATS win.
- 1-10-1 ATS last 12 in January.
The Bengals will be without A.J. Green once again, as the Ravens are still a well-compiled team that can cause major damage. Expect Cincinnati to hang around for most of the game, but the Ravens leave the fans of Cincinnati stunned with a game-winning field goal.
The first game of this series went under the total, as the under is screaming even louder with the absence of corner Jimmy Smith of the Ravens and Bengals offensive stars Green and Eifert. Expect a low scoring game where the Ravens take home the cake.
Total Pick: UNDER
