Green Bay Packers (9-6) at Detroit Lions (9-5)
Game Time: Sunday, January 1, 2017 at 8:30 pm (Ford Field)
The Line: Detroit Lions +3
The Green Bay Packers and Detroit Lions meet in a critical NFL NFC North matchup Sunday night at Ford Field on NBC that will determine the winner of the division.
Sunday Night Showdown
The Green Bay Packers look to build on their five-game winning streak and head into the playoffs with great momentum. The Green Bay Packers also look for their sixth NFC North crown since the 2007 NFL season. Aaron Rodgers is completing 65.5 percent of his passes for 4,128 yards, 36 touchdowns and seven interceptions.
Rodgers has two or more touchdown passes in nine of his last 10 games. Jordy Nelson and Davante Adams have combined for 2,157 receiving yards and 24 touchdowns while Randall Cobb has 60 receptions. The Green Bay Packers ground game is averaging 103.2 yards per contest, and Ty Montgomery leads the way with 413 yards and three touchdowns.
Defensively, Green Bay is allowing 24.3 points and 361 yards per game. Morgan Burnett leads the Green Bay Packers with 90 tackles, Nick Perry has 10 sacks and Ha Ha Clinton-Dix has five interceptions.
Spotlight On Detroit
The Detroit Lions look to snap a skid of back-to-back losses while chasing their first ever NFC North crown. The Detroit Lions also look for their third double-digit winning season since 2011. Matthew Stafford is completing 65.5 percent of his passes for 3,980 yards, 22 touchdowns and nine interceptions. Stafford has one or less touchdown pass in five of his last six games.
Golden Tate and Marvin Jones have combined for 1,854 receiving yards and seven touchdowns while Eric Ebron has 55 receptions. The Detroit Lions ground game is averaging 82.3 yards per contest, and Theo Riddick leads the way with 357 yards and one touchdown.
Defensively, Detroit is allowing 21.8 points and 348.5 yards per game. Tahir Whitehead leads the Detroit Lions with 125 tackles, Kerry Hyder has eight sacks and Tavon Wilson has two interceptions.
Green Bay Packers
- 23-11 ATS in their last 34 vs. NFC North
- 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall.
- 4-10 ATS in their last 14 vs. NFC North.
- 6-19-1 ATS last 26 after allowing more than 30 points in their previous game.
The Detroit Lions seem to be shrinking in the moment and have a quarterback with a banged up middle finger who has one touchdown pass and four interceptions in his last three games. The Lions also seem to have offensive line issues. The value may be with the Lions at home and the points, but I don’t see how the Lions win or keep this within the number against a Packers club that’s downright rolling.
The Green Bay Packers are one of the hottest teams in the league right now and have Rodgers playing out of his mind leading the way. We also know from Rodgers and company that they play their best football in the biggest moments, and it doesn’t get much bigger than this right here. Another key note is The total has gone OVER in 7 of Green Bay’s last 9 games. This will be the most watched game of the week, as both teams will not disappoint in this offensive showdown.
Total Pick: OVER
Total Confidence Rating: 5
