Washington Capitals vs. Montreal Canadiens, 01/09/17 - Prediction
Written by: Alex Alarcon
Washington Capitals (25-9-5) at Montreal Canadiens (25-9-6)
Game Time: Monday, January 9, 2017 at 7:30 pm (Bell Centre)
Line: Montreal Canadiens -117 / Washington Capitals -103
The Washington Capitals and Montreal Canadiens meet up at the Bell Centre on Monday night in a battle of two of the best teams in the NHL.
Impressive vs Atlantic
The Capitals look for a statement victory on the road against the Montreal Canadiens as they can win their sixth game in a row and improve their record to a staggering 43-10 in their last 52 matchups against Atlantic division rivals.
Washington has been as good as any team in the league this season and have certainly been among the most consistent and while the Bell Centre is a very tough place to play for opposing teams the Caps are certainly capable of neutralizing the home ice advantage of the Habs and putting up a strong effort. Braden Holtby is expected to get the call in the Washington crease as he aims to outduel Carey Price in a show down of the last two Vezina Trophy winners and two that should be in the mix for the award this season.
Not Loving Monday Night
The Canadiens meanwhile are coming off a late third period win over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday night and they will look for another big effort in this one against the Capitals in what some are speculating as a preview of the Eastern Conference final.
Montreal has been able to find success against teams in the Metropolitan division as they are 11-5 in their last 16 against a very tough division and one that has been the best in the league so far this season, but with the way the Caps have played against the Atlantic I think it is safe to say we can throw both of those stats out the window. The Canadiens have been a bit sluggish to start the week of late as they are 1-5 in their last six Monday games but will be out to change that with a statement victory against the Caps.
- Capitals are 4-0 in their last 4 after allowing 2 goals or less in their previous game.
- Capitals are 4-0 in their last 4 vs. a team with a winning record.
- Capitals are 4-0 in their last 4 games following a win.
- Capitals are 5-0 in their last 5 overall.
- Capitals are 5-0 in their last 5 vs. Eastern Conference.
- Capitals are 14-2 in their last 16 Monday games.
- Canadiens are 3-7 in their last 10 when their opponent scores 2 goals or less in their previous game.
- Canadiens are 1-5 in their last 6 Monday games.
The Capitals have been playing well, as they were the team that stopped the surging Blue Jackets. They will continue their winning streak as the Canadiens are not a big fan of Monday Night games.
