Anaheim Ducks vs. Dallas Stars, 01/10/17 – Prediction & Preview
Written by: Jason Green
Dallas Stars (16-16-8 SU 14-26 PL, 18-22 O/U) at Anaheim Ducks (21-13-8 SU, 20-120 PL, 12-21 O/U)
NHL: Tuesday January 10, 2017 at 10:30 p.m. ET
Lines: Anaheim -160/Dallas +140
The Stars have been struggling as of late and their D has been their big issue. Actually, that has been their problem on the season, as they rank 28th in the NHL in goals against. Their offense has not been bad, ranking 18th in the league in goals scored, but they have not been able to keep teams from the lighting the lamp and lighting it often.
The Ducks had their three game win streak snapped in their last game where after scoring a total of nine goals in that span they only came up with one. Even with the loss they are tied atop the Pacific Division with the San Jose Sharks and they have the 3rd most points in the Western Conference. Overall, this season Anaheim has been a balanced team that ranks 14th in the league in goals against and 17th in goals per game.
The Ducks have won five of their last six home games facing the Stars
Pick it up on the defensive side of the ice
For the Stars to get the W in this game they have to pick up their game on the defensive side of the ice. In three recent games they did not give up less than two goals and it is not like they have a dynamic offense that can bail them out. However, they did beat the Ducks in the season opener scoring four goals in a 4-2 win in the Big D. Neither of their goalies in Kari Lehtonen or Antti Niemi has a GAA of Under 2.82. Tyler Seguin leads the team in points and he and Patrick Eaves each have at least 14 goals. Not only have the Stars not had much luck facing the Ducks in Anaheim, but on the road this season they are a few games under .500.
2nd quarter kills the Ducks win streak
The Ducks had their three game win streak snapped with a 2-1 loss to the Minnesota Wild in their last game where they gave up both of their goals in the 2nd quarter. They were outshot 36-24 in the game and Ryan Kesler scored his 16th of the season for the only Anaheim goal of the game. GK Josh Gibson (15-10-7 2.46 GAA) was not bad in the game stopping 34 of 36 shots and in his previous two starts he had given up two goals and no goals. Kesler leads the team in points and he and Rickard Rakell each have 16 goals on the season. The Ducks are 13-5-2 on home ice this season.
The Dallas Stars are:
- 2-8 in their last 10 road games
- 0-5 in their last 5 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600
- 3-14 in their last 17 in the third game of a 3-in-4 situation
The Anaheim Ducks are:
- 7-2 in their last 9 home games
I have to go with the Ducks in this one, as they are at home and the Stars are on the road. It is that simple even though the Stars took the only match up facing the Ducks in the season opener.
I dig every sport and the NFL is my favorite. My team is the Redskins and my 2nd favorite is whoever is playing the Cowboys! I am a great handicapper and if you don’t believe me just ask. I don’t just write about betting on games I actually bet on them and I have done well, which is why it is a good idea to follow my picks.
