Free Picks For Belmont Park - 6/12/20
Race 6 - Allowance Optional Claiming (Purse - $68,000)
This one and one-eighth mile $62,500 optional claimer is slated to have nine fillies and mares with The Great Johanna being a main track only entry. This should be a heck of a race as I have five horses who could potentially win. I’m going with #1 Dyna Passer despite she is climbing up the competition ladder as the four-year-old filly won the last time out against optional $25,000 claimers (March 22). Jose Ortiz, who picked up two wins and three other top-three finishes in seven rides at Belmont on Thursday, will look to improve Dyna Passer’s record to 30% win percentage and a 70% WPS percentage. #7 Miss Munnings also has a victory in 2020 and is strictly a grass runner where she has medaled in 14 of 17 events including five victories. While Miss Munnings has not gone this distance before, she has run well during mile events. I also like #8 Wegetthedamunnys, #2 Beau Belle, and #3 Vortex Road to be competitive despite this being each of those three’s first 2020 event. Beau Belle perhaps owns the most speed of the competitors in the field while Vortex Road is successful on the turf and has a victory at this distance as does Wegetthedamunnys.
Picks: I like an exacta box of #1, #7, #2, #3. I also like a shore bet on the #1.
Race 8 - Allowance Optional Claiming ($68,000)
This six-furlong race on the turf will have nine male runners with an optional claiming price of $62,500. This race appears to be a free for all. #2 Chewing Gum, a strong closer, has been strong in 2020 posting three straight ESpeed scores of at least 101. The five-year-old horse is coming off a third-place against similar competition at Gulfstream (May 22) in five-and-one-half furlongs. Chewing Gum, making his first-ever start at Belmont, has finished in the top five in each of his five turf races with one win. #1 Sayyaff is the fastest of a pretty speedy field and will likely look to set the pace.ayyaff has been off since January and has finished in the money in five of his seven races on turf, which includes a pair of victories. Jockey Javier Castellano has finished in the money in 50% of his starts. #11 Identity Politics is on the turf for the first time since 2018 where he has medaled in both starts. The 5-year-old Kentucky horse last raced three months ago where he finished fourth in a six-and-a-half furlong event. Identity Politics has a 75% success rate at Belmont Park with a 25% win percentage. #3 Explorationalist does not race on the artificial surface much but he has in the top 3 in two of his three events. The 4-year-old colt, making his first appearance at Belmont Park, posted a career ESpeed mark of 107 the last time he was on turf (Jan. 5). #4 Vision Perfect could also work his way into the mix.
Picks: I like an exacta/trifecta box bet of #2, #1, #11, #3.
Race 9- Commentator Stakes (Purse - $125,000)
This one-mile handicap race is for 3-year-old’s and upward. #7 Mr. Bluff is looking for his fourth straight stakes victory though he has been off since posting a career-best ESpeed rating of 119 while nabbing the crown at the Black type Haynesfield Stakes back at Aqueduct back on February 22. The quick 6-year-old gelding has claimed victory in eight stakes races and has reached the podium in 66.7% (10 of 15) of those efforts. Mr. Bluff also appears to like running Belmont and has two wins at this distance. #8 Pat On The Back also has yet to race in 2020 but he has been very good on the dirt and in stakes races -- earning over a $1 million in 23 starts stakes starts on the main track and registering a 34.7% win percentage along with 78.2% WPS percentage. The 6-year-old horse also leads the field with six wins at Belmont as well as three victories at one mile. #1 Bankit has run well in 2020 and is coming off a strong second-place showing in a one and one-sixteenth mile performance against $75,000 optional claimers at Oaklawn Park on May 2. Bankit, who is out of Steve Asmussen’s barn, has recorded a top 3 finish in 11 of his 16 stakes outings. Jockey Irad Ortiz Jr. has been very successful at the stakes level this year, claiming a share of the race in 68% of those efforts. #5 Blewitt, out of Todd Pletcher’s barn, will look to make a splash in his stakes debut
Picks: I like a show bet on the #1. I also like an exacta bet of #7, #8, #1. I also like a trifecta bet of #7 keyed with #8, #1, #5.
