Gulfstream Race 4 - Maiden Special Weight (Purse-$45,000)

This one-mile race will consist of seven fillies. #5 Praire Wings has been very good in both of her previous outings with two-second place finishes. She also has had strong recent workouts. Trainer Todd Pletcher has Edgard Zayas in the saddle of the daughter of $800,000 Tapit. #1 Sneer should bounce back after coming up empty following an early bid, which resulted in a fifth-place finish, on a sloppy seven-furlong track. She did come in second two outings back at this distance. #4 Assume, another Pletcher horse, is coming off another long-layoff following a strong performance her last time out on April 2 despite getting outdueled for second by Token in an one mile and one-sixteenth event. Expect jockey Miguel Angel Vasquez to get Assume out in front early as she has the propensity to show good early speed.

Picks: I like #5 keyed with the #1, #4 in a trifecta bet.

Race 6 - Maiden Claiming ($36,000)

Eight colts and geldings will go six furlongs in this $50,000-$40,000 maiden claimers. #7 Chill Haze has been pretty consistent recently and is making the third start back from the layoff after finishing second in back-to-back races at this level and distance. If jockey Emisael Jaramillo can get Chill Haze off to a good start, he may be able to go wire-to-wire. #8 Fast Magic is making his third career start and has reached the podium in each of those outings. The three-year-old colt finished third just behind Chill Haze the last time out at this level. Apprentice Christian Torres will be in the saddle this go around for Fast Magic, who is making his first start for owner Jonathan Green and trainerJoseph Oreno. #2 Mukuwitz is dropping to the maiden claiming ranks after seven starts in the Special Weight class. While Mukuwitz has not medaled in any of his last three starts, he does have two bronzes and has shown improvement in each of his last two outings. Mukuwitz has also been pretty good at this distance as he has some early speed.

Picks: I like an exacta box of #7, #8. I also like a value show bet on the #2. Additionally, I like a trifecta box of the #7, #8, #2.

Race 11 - Allowance Optional Claiming (Purse -$46,000)

This one-mile $75,000 optional claiming race is set for six three-year-old fillies. #1 Elusive Molly is coming off the longest layoff of her career (over three months) following two whirlwind performances where she won each outing by 10 lengths. This includes the three-year-old’s last outing versus $35,000 optional claimers going this distance. Trainer Michael Maker will have jockey Edgard Zayas in the saddle and the duo has won 40% of their races together. #5 Fiftyshay’s Ofgreen’s last two starts have been stakes races where she finished seventh and third, respectively. Fiftyshay’s Ofgreen has not raced since March 7 and is making her first career start at Gulfstream. She has finished in the top 3 in 66% of her starts. #6 Judy’s Way makes her debut at Gulfstream after two-second place showings in the last three starts at this level at Tampa Bay. Judy’s Way is once again starting from an outside post which should aid Edgar Prado in getting out front early, where she is at her best.

Picks: I like an exacta box of #1, #5. I also like a trifecta box of #1 keyed with the #5, #6.
