Free Picks for Gulfstream Park - 9/12/20
Race 1 -Maiden Special Weight ($60,000)
10 2-year-old colts will go five furlongs on the turf. Four of the horses have at least one race in hand.
#5 Omaha City is clearly an extremely talented youngster and has been close to breaking his maiden his last time out but was not able to complete the job after chasing the winner. He has three straight top 3 finishes and should be able to nab a victory here but trainer Mohammed Jehaludi’s barn has not been too successful with a career 5% winning percentage and 18% WPS percentage.
#1 Drain The Clock has produced three very strong workouts in his last four attempts, which includes going four-furlongs in 47.48 seconds the last time out.The son of Maclean’s Music is being trained by Saffie Joseph Jr., whose horses do well at this level and as well as 2-year-old runners but just not the first time out (6% strike rate). Joseph Jr. and jockey Edgar Zayas have a 30% win rate when working together and hits the ticket 59% of the time.
#10 Andres Eduardo just raced on Sept. 3 but he dropped far back after showing a little ability in his first turf race and is turning back from a mile. Trainer Anthony Sano’s horses do well at this distance and level.
#6 Doctor K and #7 Young Thomas are a couple of other horses that should be considered in exotic bets. Both are first-time starters.
Picks: I like a win bet on the #5. I also like a #1, #5 exacta box. A show bet on the #1, #6, #7 as well as #10.
Race 3: Claiming $25,000 (Purse- $27,000)
Six colts and geldings will go seven furlongs on the dirt.
#2 Reservenotattained is taking a small drop in class and has been running fairly well in his last three starts. The 4-year-old gelding also has shown good speed the past three races and trainer Michael Yates’ horses have a 33% strike rate when coming off of a layoff of 31-60 days. Reservenattained is making his debut at this distance which is a little concerning as he has not run over six and one-half furlongs.
#1 Blessed Journey is taking the drop in class and gets relief in distance. The 3-year-old Kentucky gelding has run well at Gulfstream and gets the favorable rail position. This will bee Blessed Journey’s second race for trainer Carlos Perez although Marcos Meneses, who has four cashes in five rides on the son of Gemologist.
#3 Town Classic is the veteran and the glass of the group. He is also running for the second time for trainer Saffie Joseph Jr., whose horses have an 18% strike rate in their second race following a long layoff. Town Classic has finished in the top 3 in 70.7% of his 36 cases including seven of eight at this distance.
Picks: I like an exacta box of #2. #1. #3. I also like a show bet on the #3.
Race 6 - Allowance Optional Claiming $25,000 (Purse -$47,000)
Six fillies and mares will go six and one-half furlongs. This should be an excellent race and features two horses, Cory Gal, and Baccarat Fashion, have squared off the last two races with each pony defeating the other.
#4 Sonar is making her third start off of a layoff and has run pretty well in his two previous outings this year, finishing in the top 3 both times. The daughter of the Brethren gets relief in the distance and she had an excellent training session recently. Plus, aggressive Christian Torres gets the ride on the speedy filly.
#6 Baccarat Fashion is probably the best horse in this field and has overcome trouble in each of her last two races to finish first and second. She is 2-for-2 at this distance and has reached the podium in 50% of her 10 career races at Gulfstream Park. Trainer Mike Maker has a 25% strike rate at in claiming events.
#2 Doll Collection is coming off her maiden victory at this distance and will have Emisael Jaramillo in the irons for a third straight race -- the 4-year-old filly has finished first and second in each of her races with Jaramillo. Doll Collection has not raced since July 5 though she does have five top 3 finishes in seven races.
Picks: I like an exacta box of #4, #6. I will also take a show bet on the #4.
