NHL set to hold training camps on July 10
The NHL is getting closer to returning as they are headed to Phase 3 of its return to play plan.
The beginning of that plan will take place on July 10, which includes each of the 24 teams starting training camp.
Currently, the NHL is in Phase 2, with NHL training centers opening for a small group of players.
The key is to get to Phase 4, which will be the restart of the 2019-20 NHL season, which will feature a 24-team postseason tournament, held in August.
The NHLPA is expected to vote on Phases 3 and 4 at the same time. They have approved the playoff format, but have not approved an actual return to play this summer.
The league will also test for COVID-19 on a daily basis when the league resumes play. There is a concern that nearly 20% of the players are currently overseas, having left the country after the NHL was halted on March 12.
The NHL is also in the process of finding two hub cities to host all of the games during the postseason. There will be one hub city in the Eastern Conference and one in the Western Conference. Chicago, Columbus, Dallas, Edmonton, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Minneapolis/St. Paul, Pittsburgh, Toronto, and Vancouver are all being mentioned as potential sites according to reports.
