CFL Best Bets for Week 18: Picks for Every Game on October 2-3, 2026
The CFL regular season enters its final stretch with four games on the Week 18 schedule and a West Division playoff race that remains far from settled. Hamilton visits Ottawa and Calgary travels to Saskatchewan on Friday night before Saturday brings BC to Toronto and Winnipeg to Montreal. Edmonton has the week off after clinching a playoff berth, leaving Saskatchewan, BC, Winnipeg and Calgary fighting for the remaining positions in the West and the crossover spot.
Our CFL Best Bets approach is different from a traditional game-by-game picks article. Rather than automatically making a moneyline, spread and total prediction for every matchup, we are looking across the available markets and identifying the single wager we like most from each game. That could be a side in one matchup and a total in another. With four games on the Week 18 schedule, that leaves us with four wagers on the betting card and one selection that will earn our CFL Best Bet of the Week.
Hamilton Tiger-Cats vs. Ottawa REDBLACKS Best Bet
Friday, October 2 — 7:00 PM ET
Hamilton and Ottawa open the Week 18 schedule in a matchup between two teams that have already been eliminated from playoff contention. The Tiger-Cats enter at 4-11 overall and have struggled away from home, while Ottawa remains in search of its first victory at 0-14. The REDBLACKS have been competitive enough offensively to make several games interesting, but their inability to consistently get stops has been the defining problem of their season. Ottawa has allowed more than 37 points per game, easily creating the type of defensive environment that can turn an otherwise meaningless late-season matchup into an attractive game for total bettors.
Hamilton hasn't exactly been shutting opponents down either. The Tiger-Cats have surrendered more than 30 points per game and enter Week 18 on a five-game losing streak, including an overtime loss to Edmonton in their most recent contest. Ottawa, meanwhile, has started showing considerably more offensive life and scored 38 points against Calgary in Week 16. The REDBLACKS aren't suddenly an elite offensive team, but they don't need to become one for this matchup to reach the 60s. Hamilton should have opportunities against the league's most generous scoring defense, while Ottawa has demonstrated enough recent offensive improvement to contribute its share.
Why Over 60.5 Makes the Cut
Choosing a side between a 4-11 team and an 0-14 team isn't particularly appealing, especially when neither has postseason positioning at stake. The total gives us a cleaner way to attack the matchup. Ottawa has allowed 524 points through 14 games, and Hamilton's defense has also struggled enough that the REDBLACKS shouldn't need an exceptional performance to get into the upper 20s. If Hamilton reaches the low-to-mid 30s against Ottawa's defense, we're essentially asking the REDBLACKS to contribute somewhere around four touchdowns.
There is certainly risk attached to laying over 60 points in any CFL matchup, particularly between two eliminated teams, but the defensive profiles make this a more attractive option than trusting either club to cover a short spread. Ottawa's pursuit of its first victory should also keep the REDBLACKS aggressive rather than simply playing out the schedule. A game in the 34-30 range is enough to cash, and both defenses have shown that they are capable of allowing that type of scoring environment.
CFL Best Bet: Hamilton-Ottawa Over 60.5
Calgary Stampeders vs. Saskatchewan Roughriders Best Bet
Friday, October 2 — 9:30 PM ET
Friday's second game carries considerably more weight in the standings as Calgary visits Saskatchewan at Mosaic Stadium. The Roughriders enter at 8-6 and can secure a postseason berth with a victory, while Calgary sits at 7-8 and remains directly involved in the crowded West Division race. Saskatchewan lost 31-24 to BC last week, preventing the Riders from creating separation, while Calgary has been one of the league's most explosive offensive teams and enters this matchup having scored 85 points over its last two games.
The matchup is fascinating because Saskatchewan has been considerably better defensively than Calgary, but the Stampeders have enough offensive firepower to make laying close to a touchdown with the Roughriders uncomfortable. Calgary has averaged roughly 35 points per game while also allowing approximately 34, a combination that naturally creates high-scoring games. We have already seen that formula play out against Saskatchewan. The first meeting between these teams ended with the Roughriders winning 40-37, producing 77 combined points.
Why Over 62.5 Makes the Cut
The total is high, but there are good reasons for it. Calgary's offense has demonstrated the ability to score quickly and consistently, and the Stampeders aren't dependent upon holding opponents down to win games. Their defensive vulnerability means Saskatchewan should have opportunities to answer, particularly at Mosaic Stadium with a chance to clinch a playoff berth. We don't necessarily need Saskatchewan to match the 40 points it scored in the first meeting, either. Something like 34-30 would already push this game beyond the current number.
Saskatchewan's defense is the primary argument against the wager, and the Roughriders have been considerably more reliable on that side of the football. However, Calgary presents one of the league's toughest offensive tests, and the Stampeders' own defensive problems should help prevent Saskatchewan from becoming overly conservative. With Calgary scoring 85 points over its last two games and the first meeting producing 77, the offensive upside outweighs the elevated number.
CFL Best Bet: Calgary-Saskatchewan Over 62.5
BC Lions vs. Toronto Argonauts Best Bet
Saturday, October 3 — 3:00 PM ET
Saturday afternoon brings one of the most competitive games on the Week 18 board as BC travels to BMO Field to face Toronto. The Lions enter at 8-6 after beating Saskatchewan 31-24, while the Argonauts are 9-6 and have already secured a playoff berth. Toronto has won five of its last six games and has been particularly difficult to beat at BMO Field, but BC arrives with one of the CFL's hottest offenses and significant motivation as the Lions continue battling for their position in the West.
BC has scored at least 30 points in six consecutive games, establishing an offensive floor that makes the Lions difficult to fade when the spread is essentially asking them to win the game. Toronto's recent defensive improvement deserves respect, particularly because the Argonauts have allowed approximately 23 points per game over their last six contests. This isn't simply a case of taking the hotter offense against a weak opponent. Toronto is playing good football, and its home-field performance is one of the biggest reasons this spread remains close.
Why BC -2.5 Makes the Cut
The total around 65.5 is tempting considering BC's recent offensive production, but asking these teams to combine for approximately nine touchdowns is a considerable requirement. The shorter BC spread gives us a more attractive path. At -2.5, the Lions simply need to win by a field goal, allowing us to back their offensive consistency without needing another enormous scoring performance from both teams.
Toronto's quarterback situation also deserves monitoring before kickoff because any limitation there could make keeping pace with BC considerably more difficult. Even without relying heavily on that uncertainty, the Lions have produced enough sustained offensive success to warrant backing them at less than a field goal. Toronto's home performance prevents this from becoming the strongest wager on the entire card, but BC -2.5 is preferable to chasing the highest total of Week 18.
CFL Best Bet: BC Lions -2.5
Winnipeg Blue Bombers vs. Montreal Alouettes Best Bet
Saturday, October 3 — 7:00 PM ET
Week 18 concludes with Winnipeg visiting Montreal in a matchup that looks considerably different from the last time these teams met. Winnipeg defeated Montreal 44-28 earlier this season, a result that immediately makes laying close to a touchdown with the Alouettes worthy of caution. Montreal has nevertheless put together one of the CFL's strongest overall seasons, entering Week 18 at 11-3 while remaining perfect at home. The Alouettes are 7-0 in Montreal and come into this matchup rested after a bye.
Winnipeg enters at 7-7 and remains firmly involved in the West Division playoff fight, but the Blue Bombers will have to navigate this matchup without starting quarterback Zach Collaros. That increases the importance of Winnipeg's rushing attack and makes staying within its preferred offensive script critical. If the Bombers can control possession, run effectively and avoid falling behind early, they have a path toward making this another competitive matchup. If Montreal establishes a two-score advantage and forces Winnipeg into obvious passing situations, the matchup becomes much more difficult for the visitors.
Why Montreal -5.5 Makes the Cut
Montreal's home performance is the starting point for this wager. The Alouettes have yet to lose at home this season, and they enter Saturday with the additional advantage of having had a week to rest and prepare. Winnipeg's earlier 44-28 victory means there is no reason to assume Montreal will simply dominate the matchup, but the circumstances surrounding Game 2 are different enough to justify backing the Alouettes.
The number is extremely important. Montreal -5.5 is considerably more attractive than -6.5 because it gives us protection if the Alouettes win by six. Winnipeg's rushing attack is good enough to keep the Bombers competitive and potentially shorten the game, so this isn't a situation where we want to chase the spread upward. At -5.5, however, Montreal's perfect home record, rest advantage and Winnipeg's quarterback situation create the strongest combination of matchup and price on the Week 18 board.
CFL Best Bet: Montreal Alouettes -5.5
CFL Week 18 Betting Card
Week 18 gives us an interesting mix rather than four variations of the same wager. Hamilton-Ottawa Over 60.5 attacks the defensive weaknesses of two eliminated teams, while Calgary-Saskatchewan Over 62.5 backs two offenses that combined for 77 points in their previous meeting. On Saturday, BC -2.5 allows us to back one of the league's hottest offenses without laying a full field goal, while Montreal -5.5 takes advantage of the Alouettes' home dominance and Winnipeg's difficult quarterback situation.
There will inevitably be movement before kickoff, particularly in the BC-Toronto and Winnipeg-Montreal games, so the numbers matter. BC becomes less appealing if the spread climbs beyond a field goal, while Montreal is considerably stronger at -5.5 than it is at -6.5. Likewise, there is a point where the two totals become too expensive to chase. The recommendations above are tied to the listed numbers rather than simply being unconditional opinions on the games.
CFL Best Bet of the Week
Of the four wagers on our Week 18 card, Montreal -5.5 against Winnipeg earns the designation as our CFL Best Bet of the Week. The Alouettes enter at 11-3, are undefeated at home and have had additional preparation time coming out of their bye. Winnipeg remains dangerous because of its rushing attack and postseason urgency, but playing in Montreal without its starting quarterback creates a significantly more difficult assignment.
The key remains getting the Alouettes below six points. At Montreal -5.5, we can cash with a six-point victory and avoid laying the full touchdown that some markets are approaching. That combination of home-field performance, rest, opponent circumstances and a manageable spread makes Montreal our strongest wager from the four-game Week 18 schedule.
