Edmonton Elks vs Calgary Stampeders Picks and Prediction for Monday September 7 2026

By: Kim Smith Published 09/02/2026, 02:20 AM ET

The Edmonton Elks travel to McMahon Stadium in Calgary, Alberta, to battle the Calgary Stampeders in the annual Labour Day Classic on Monday, September 7, 2026. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:00 PM ET, with TSN carrying the game. Edmonton enters at 8-3, while Calgary is 5-6. The betting market is extremely tight, with sportsbooks currently ranging from Edmonton -1.5 to Calgary -1.5. BetMGM has Edmonton -1.5 with a total of 58.5, while another current market has Calgary -1.5 and the total at 59.5.

This is one of the most intriguing games on the CFL Labour Day schedule because the records suggest Edmonton should have the advantage, yet oddsmakers are treating these teams as virtually even. The Elks have won eight of their first 11 games and are also 8-3 against the spread. Calgary has been much more inconsistent at 5-6, but the Stampeders enter with a 3-2 record over their last five games and get the benefit of playing the rivalry game at McMahon Stadium. Edmonton Has Been One of the CFL's Best Bets

Edmonton enters Labour Day with an impressive 8-3 record and has rewarded bettors at essentially the same rate, going 8-3 against the spread. The Elks are averaging 29.4 points per game while allowing 25.4. They have also gone 3-2 over their last five games while averaging 31.2 points during that stretch.

The road performance is particularly important for Monday's matchup. Edmonton is 3-2 away from home while averaging 28.4 points per game. The defense has been less effective on the road, allowing 31.4 points per contest, but the Elks have still managed to produce a winning record outside Edmonton. That gives them a reasonable foundation for handling the pressure of the Labour Day environment.

Edmonton's 8-3 record is the biggest reason I'm reluctant to put much weight on Calgary's home-field advantage. When two teams are essentially being priced as equals, getting the club that has consistently produced victories becomes attractive. Edmonton has also cashed eight of 11 spreads, indicating that its strong straight-up record has not simply been created by consistently favorable betting numbers.

Calgary Is Dangerous Despite the Losing Record

Calgary enters at 5-6 overall and 5-6 against the spread, but the Stampeders have been better recently. They are 3-2 over their last five games while averaging 36 points and allowing 27.2 per contest. That improved form helps explain why sportsbooks are unwilling to make Edmonton a significant road favorite despite the difference in overall records.

The offensive numbers are particularly impressive. Calgary is averaging 36.9 points per game for the season, although it has also surrendered 31.8. That scoring environment has pushed eight of Calgary's 11 games Over the total. At McMahon Stadium, the Stampeders are averaging 34.8 points while allowing 32.8, and four of their six home games have gone Over.

The problem is that home field has not translated into enough victories. Calgary is just 2-4 at McMahon Stadium this season. The Stampeders are dangerous enough offensively to make Edmonton work for four quarters, but laying points with a team that has lost four of six at home is difficult when the opponent owns an 8-3 record.

Edmonton Elks vs Calgary Stampeders Picks and Prediction

Pick: Edmonton Elks +1.5

I'm taking Edmonton Elks +1.5 anywhere that Calgary remains the favorite. If the market flips and Edmonton becomes a small favorite, I would still consider the Elks up to approximately -1.5. Edmonton owns the substantially better overall record at 8-3, is also 8-3 against the spread and has gone 3-2 on the road. Calgary's recent improvement and home-field advantage make this a close matchup, but the Stampeders are only 2-4 at McMahon Stadium. With sportsbooks disagreeing over which team should even be favored, I want the team that has been substantially more consistent throughout the season. Edmonton +1.5 is the preferred side when available.

Pick: Over 58.5

I'm taking Over 58.5 points, and I prefer that number to 59.5 if it remains available. Calgary's games have gone Over eight times in 11 opportunities, and the Stampeders are averaging 36.9 points while surrendering 31.8. Their six home games have produced average combined scoring of 67.6 points. Edmonton has also averaged 31.2 points over its last five games while allowing 28.2. There is enough offensive production on both sides for this rivalry game to reach the 60s, and something around 32-30 would fit the statistical profile. Over 58.5 is the total pick.

Final Picks: Edmonton Elks +1.5 and Over 58.5
