Hamilton Trying to Stop Its Slide

Hamilton comes into Week 13 needing a response after a difficult 39-20 loss to Toronto. The Tiger-Cats were competitive through the first half but were outscored 24-3 over the final two quarters as the Argonauts pulled away. The defeat dropped Hamilton to 4-7 and continued a difficult stretch for a team that has struggled to find consistent production.

The season numbers illustrate the problem. Hamilton is averaging approximately 329.5 total yards per game, including 250.1 through the air and 93.2 on the ground. The Tiger-Cats are producing only 23.4 points per game, putting significant pressure on a defence that hasn't consistently been able to compensate for the offence's struggles.

The road situation doesn't make this any easier. Hamilton is 1-4 away from home, and the Tiger-Cats already know how badly things can unravel against Calgary. These teams met on August 1, when the Stampeders went into Hamilton and delivered a convincing 44-20 victory. That 24-point margin makes the current 6.5-point spread much easier to understand.

Calgary Has Already Proven It Can Exploit This Matchup

Calgary enters Week 13 rested after its bye, and this is an important opportunity for the Stampeders to get their season moving in the right direction. Calgary's 4-6 record isn't particularly impressive, but the underlying offensive numbers are substantially stronger than Hamilton's.

The Stampeders are generating approximately 359.3 total yards per game, including 260.6 passing and 113.1 rushing yards. Most importantly, Calgary has been one of the league's highest-scoring teams, averaging 37.8 points per game. Hamilton, by comparison, is producing only 23.4 points.

Calgary also has the benefit of knowing its offensive approach already worked against this opponent. In the first meeting, the Stampeders scored 44 points and won by more than three touchdowns. Calgary produced enough balance to keep Hamilton from dictating the game defensively, and the Tiger-Cats now have to demonstrate that they can make significant adjustments.

There is one concern with laying this number: Calgary hasn't exactly dominated at McMahon Stadium. The Stampeders are 1-4 at home, so this isn't a case where home-field advantage alone makes Calgary trustworthy. Still, the matchup itself, Calgary's rest advantage and the enormous difference in offensive production give the Stampeders the stronger betting profile.

Hamilton Tiger-Cats vs Calgary Stampeders Picks and Prediction

Pick: Calgary Stampeders -6.5

I'm willing to lay the touchdown with Calgary. The first meeting wasn't remotely close, with the Stampeders winning 44-20 in Hamilton, and the Tiger-Cats now have to face the same opponent on the road after being beaten 39-20 by Toronto. Hamilton's 1-4 road record and 23.4-point scoring average are significant concerns against a Calgary offence averaging 37.8 points. The Stampeders' poor home record prevents this from being an automatic play, but at -6.5, Calgary is still the side. Take Calgary -6.5.

Pick: Over 59.5

The number is high, but Calgary's offensive production makes Over 59.5 attractive. The Stampeders have already scored 44 against Hamilton this season, and their games have demonstrated the ability to become high-scoring affairs. Calgary recently beat Winnipeg 52-30, defeated Hamilton 44-20 and then lost 30-26 to BC. Hamilton doesn't necessarily need to match Calgary score-for-score for the over to cash; something around 38-24 would be sufficient. Take Over 59.5.

Prediction: Calgary Stampeders 38, Hamilton Tiger-Cats 24
