Hamilton Tiger-Cats vs Toronto Argonauts Picks and Prediction for Saturday August 22, 2026

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats travel to BMO Field in Toronto for another installment of the QEW rivalry against the Toronto Argonauts on Saturday, August 22, 2026. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET. Toronto enters at 4-5, while Hamilton improved to 4-6 with an important victory last weekend. The current betting line has Toronto favored by 4.5 points, with the total set at 63.5.

This matchup presents an interesting handicapping situation. Toronto has the better record and home-field advantage, but the Argonauts are coming off their poorest performance of the season. Hamilton, meanwhile, just produced a fourth-quarter comeback against one of the CFL's better teams. These clubs also know each other extremely well, which makes laying more than a field goal with Toronto somewhat uncomfortable. Be ready for all the CFL action with our free CFL picks.

Hamilton Comes to Toronto With Renewed Confidence

Hamilton improved to 4-6 with a 26-19 victory over Saskatchewan last Saturday. The Tiger-Cats trailed entering the fourth quarter before scoring 16 unanswered points to complete the comeback. Hamilton finished with 350 total yards, including 263 through the air, while holding Saskatchewan to only 216 total yards.

Perhaps most importantly, Hamilton played clean football. The Tiger-Cats didn't commit a turnover, while their defense forced two interceptions. That combination allowed Hamilton to remain within striking distance before taking control during the fourth quarter.

The victory snapped a three-game losing streak and deserves some respect because Saskatchewan entered the matchup as one of the stronger teams in the CFL. Hamilton had struggled badly at times during its skid, but coming from behind against a quality opponent provides a much stronger indication of what this team can accomplish when its offense finds some rhythm.

Hamilton's challenge will be avoiding the stretches of offensive inconsistency that have plagued it throughout the season. Toronto has enough offensive ability to punish short fields and turnovers, so the Tiger-Cats cannot afford to spend an entire half searching for answers again. Still, getting 4.5 points gives Hamilton a useful cushion in a rivalry matchup that could remain competitive deep into the fourth quarter.

Toronto Needs a Significant Bounce-Back Performance

Toronto returns home at 4-5 after getting dismantled 42-12 by Edmonton. The Argonauts were outgained 459-322 and surrendered 31 points during the second half. Toronto also struggled badly with turnovers, and Edmonton turned those mistakes into a considerable portion of its scoring.

The Argonauts still generated 277 passing yards against Edmonton, showing they could move the football through the air. The problem was converting those yards into touchdowns. Toronto finished without a passing touchdown and generated only 45 rushing yards on 12 attempts.

That lack of balance is concerning when Toronto is being asked to cover more than a field goal. The Argonauts need to establish a more consistent rushing attack and avoid putting their defense in difficult situations with turnovers.

Returning to BMO Field should certainly help, and Toronto remains capable of producing a significant bounce-back performance. However, a 30-point defeat isn't easy to dismiss when the Argonauts are laying 4.5 against a Hamilton team coming off one of its better performances of the season.

Hamilton Tiger-Cats vs Toronto Argonauts Picks and Prediction

Pick: Hamilton Tiger-Cats +4.5

Hamilton +4.5 is the preferred side. The Tiger-Cats aren't necessarily the stronger team overall, but the current number provides enough protection in what should be a competitive rivalry game.

Hamilton just defeated Saskatchewan 26-19 while producing 350 yards and committing no turnovers. Toronto, meanwhile, was beaten 42-12 and turned the football over repeatedly against Edmonton. One week shouldn't completely change the evaluation of either club, but those performances matter when Toronto is being asked to win by five or more points.

There is also a realistic path where Toronto rebounds enough to win the game without covering. A 30-27 or 31-28 Argonauts victory would still cash Hamilton +4.5. Take the Tiger-Cats plus the points.

Pick: Under 63.5

The total is high enough to lean toward the under. Reaching 64 combined points requires considerable offensive production, and neither team has consistently demonstrated enough reliability to make that the preferred outcome.

Hamilton's victory over Saskatchewan produced only 45 combined points. Toronto managed just 12 points against Edmonton despite accumulating 277 passing yards. The Argonauts should improve offensively at home, but improvement doesn't necessarily mean this game reaches the mid-60s.

Hamilton also has an incentive to keep the game controlled rather than turn it into a shootout. If the Tiger-Cats can limit turnovers and sustain drives, they can shorten the game and make Toronto work for its possessions.

A competitive rivalry matchup finishing somewhere in the upper 50s looks more likely than an offensive explosion. Take Under 63.5.
