Ottawa Still Searching for Its First Victory

Ottawa enters Week 11 at 0-8 overall and 0-3 on the road. The Redblacks have lost their last five games, most recently falling 42-20 at Saskatchewan. That defeat followed a 34-13 home loss against Montreal and a narrow 36-34 overtime setback against Winnipeg. Ottawa has now allowed at least 34 points in five of its eight games.

The Redblacks are averaging 23.3 points per game while surrendering 36.1. Their offense has reached 30 points twice, but both performances ended in close losses. Ottawa has scored only 67 combined points across its last three games, while the defense has conceded 112 during that same period.

The encouraging result was the first meeting with Winnipeg. Ottawa led by 17 points during the third quarter before ultimately losing 36-34 in overtime. The Redblacks covered the spread in that game and demonstrated that they could move the ball against the Winnipeg defense. However, turning another competitive performance into a victory will require considerably better second-half execution.

Winnipeg Looks to End Its Two-Game Slide

Winnipeg returns from its bye week with a 4-4 overall record. The Blue Bombers have lost consecutive games, allowing 52 points against Calgary before suffering a 35-19 defeat against BC. Winnipeg is 3-2 over its last five games, but its only victory during the last three came by two points in overtime against Ottawa.

The Blue Bombers are averaging 25.5 points per game and allowing 30.4. Their defense has surrendered 121 points across the last three contests, including at least 34 in each game. Winnipeg’s offense has also lacked consistency, scoring 30 or more points in four games but finishing with 19 or fewer in three others.

Home-field advantage has not provided much protection this season. Winnipeg is only 1-4 at Princess Auto Stadium, with its lone home victory coming against Toronto. Still, the Blue Bombers are facing an Ottawa team that has not won anywhere and owns the league’s weakest scoring defense. Winnipeg should have opportunities to control the game if it avoids the mistakes that helped Ottawa build a substantial lead in their first meeting.

Winnipeg will have Zach Collaros back as its starting quarterback after he missed four games with a neck injury. Starting running back Brady Oliveira is considered a game-time decision because of an ankle injury. Jarell Broxton and Cameron Lawson are returning, while Michael Griffin II has been placed on the six-game injured list with an ankle injury.

Ottawa receives defensive reinforcements with Nyles Morgan and Habakkuk Baldonado returning to the lineup. However, Bryce Carter and Michael Wakefield were placed on the six-game injured list earlier this week. The Redblacks also made changes in their secondary as they attempt to improve a defense that has allowed more than 36 points per game.
