Saskatchewan Roughriders vs BC Lions Picks and Predictions for Sunday August 23, 2026

The Saskatchewan Roughriders travel to Vancouver for an important West Division matchup against the BC Lions on Sunday, August 23, 2026. Kickoff from BC Place is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. PT and 7:00 p.m. ET. Saskatchewan enters at 6-3 after suffering a 26-19 loss at Hamilton, while BC has improved to 4-5 following three consecutive victories. The current betting market has Saskatchewan favored by 1.5 points with the total set at 63.5.

This is one of the more intriguing games of Week 12. Saskatchewan has been the better team over the entire season, but BC enters playing its best football of the year. The Lions' offense is becoming increasingly dangerous, and the combination of home-field advantage and their recent improvement makes this considerably closer than the records suggest. Saskatchewan Looks to Rebound After a Difficult Loss

Saskatchewan's 6-3 record keeps the Roughriders firmly in the West Division race, but last week's 26-19 loss to Hamilton was disappointing. Saskatchewan carried a nine-point advantage into the fourth quarter before the Tiger-Cats scored 16 unanswered points to steal the victory.

The Roughriders struggled to generate consistent offense in Hamilton. Saskatchewan finished with only 216 total yards and 15 first downs, while Hamilton generated 350 yards and 23 first downs. The Roughriders also committed two turnovers while failing to force one themselves.

Those numbers provide some concern heading into Vancouver. BC just generated 453 yards against Calgary, so Saskatchewan cannot afford another game in which its offense struggles to sustain drives. Giving the Lions repeated possessions could eventually overwhelm even a capable Roughriders defense.

Saskatchewan nevertheless deserves respect after its strong first half of the season. One poor performance shouldn't erase what the Roughriders accomplished while building their 6-3 record. The question for bettors is whether Saskatchewan should actually be laying points on the road against a BC team that appears to be improving rapidly.

BC Lions Are Becoming Dangerous

BC's season has taken a significant turn. After beginning the year with three consecutive losses, the Lions have gradually recovered and now enter this matchup at 4-5 following three straight victories.

Their latest performance may have been their most encouraging.

BC defeated Calgary 30-26 on the road while generating 453 total yards. The Lions produced 301 yards through the air and another 152 on the ground, giving them the type of offensive balance that makes them difficult to defend.

BC's rushing performance deserves particular attention. The Lions averaged more than six yards per rushing attempt against Calgary. That prevented the Stampeders from concentrating entirely on stopping the passing game and helped BC produce four offensive touchdowns.

The Lions also showed they could respond under pressure. Calgary made a push, but BC didn't collapse and found enough offense late to secure the victory. For a team that struggled to finish games earlier in the season, that is an encouraging development.

Now BC returns to BC Place with additional rest after playing on Thursday, August 13. Saskatchewan played two days later on Saturday, August 15, so the Lions will have a small preparation and recovery advantage entering this matchup.

The Biggest Matchup: Saskatchewan's Defense Against BC's Offense

This game could ultimately be determined by whether Saskatchewan can slow down BC's increasingly productive offense.

The Lions generated 453 yards against Calgary, including 152 rushing yards. Establishing the run creates considerably more room for BC's passing attack, and that balance could become particularly troublesome if Saskatchewan's offense struggles to stay on the field.

Saskatchewan's defense therefore needs help from its offense. Long possessions, improved efficiency and avoiding turnovers would prevent BC from developing the type of offensive rhythm it established against Calgary.

The contrast between last week's performances is difficult to ignore. Saskatchewan produced 216 total yards while BC produced 453. That doesn't automatically mean BC is the better team, but it certainly suggests the Lions are entering this matchup in stronger current form.

Saskatchewan Roughriders vs BC Lions Picks and Predictions

Pick: BC Lions +1.5

BC +1.5 is the preferred side.

Saskatchewan has the superior overall record, but the current form favors the Lions. BC has won three consecutive games and just went into Calgary and produced 453 yards in a 30-26 victory. Saskatchewan, meanwhile, generated only 216 yards in its loss to Hamilton.

Home field matters as well. Saskatchewan being favored on the road suggests the market still places considerable weight on its superior season record, but this BC team looks significantly better than the one that struggled early in the year.

The Lions have also demonstrated enough offensive balance to make Saskatchewan uncomfortable. If BC can establish its rushing attack again, the Roughriders will have difficulty consistently getting the Lions into obvious passing situations.

At +1.5, we're essentially asking BC to win the game at home. Given the direction these teams are moving, that's a position worth taking. Take BC +1.5.

Pick: Under 63.5

The total is extremely high, and that creates value on the under.

BC's offense is certainly capable of scoring, but Saskatchewan's performance against Hamilton raises questions about whether the Roughriders can contribute enough points to push this matchup into the mid-60s.

A 63.5 total requires something along the lines of 34-30 just to get over. Saskatchewan has enough offensive ability to improve substantially from last week's performance, but expecting both teams to approach 30 points leaves very little margin for stalled drives, turnovers or successful defensive possessions.

BC also doesn't necessarily need a shootout to win. If the Lions can continue establishing the running game, they can control possession and reduce the number of total drives.

The number is more important than simply deciding whether these teams are capable of scoring. At 63.5, the market is asking for a considerable offensive performance. Take Under 63.5.
