Wildcats have passed every test thus far
Arizona last played on Dec. 6, crushing Auburn 97-68 at home. The Tigers were 20th at the time and the Wildcats have now defeated four Top 25 teams this season. Arizona ranks just 6th on KenPom, 9th in Adjusted Offense and 10th in Adjusted Defense. Tide rebound from early losses
Alabama has won four straight games coming into this matchup with solid wins over Maryland (105-72) and Clemson (90-84). In their last game, they defeated UTSA 97-55 on Dec. 7. Jalil Bethea led the Tide with 21 points, while Labaron Philon and London Jemison added 20 points apiece. Earlier this season, Alabama lost to Gonzaga (95-85) in Las Vegas and Purdue (87-80) at home as a 3-point favorite in November.
Philon leads the Tide with 21.4 points per game, while Bethea adds 11.5 points per game after making his season debut on Dec. 3. There are some major injury concerns with Alabama with second-leading scorer Aden Holloway (18.2ppg) missing the last few games due to a wrist injury. He missed the UTSA game along with Taylor Bol Bowen (10.0ppg), who was out with back spasms. Holloway is listed as questionable for this game, while Bol Bowen is probable.
Alabama is 103rd in rebound rate, 13th on KenPom and second in Adjusted Offensive Rating.
Spread Pick and Prediction for Arizona vs. Alabama
Arizona vs. Alabama prediction
- Arizona +1.5 (4 units)
Alabama is not an easy place to play, but the injury to Holloway is a major concern, along with their rebound rate (103rd). Arizona is a terrific offensive team, shooting 53.1% from the field to rank fourth in the nation. Alabama, partially due to the pace of play, gives up a ton of points, but their defense is also a bit shaky, allowing 42.1% shooting from the field. Arizona has really been battle-tested and is the better team, so expect a fifth win over a top-25 team.
- Over 176.5 (4 units)
I know that's a big total, but these teams can easily play in the 90s. Arizona is 36th in pace of play, while Alabama is eighth. Nate Oats' teams are going to run all night and this is not anything unique from his past squads in terms of pace of play. Arizona has gone over in three straight games, while Alabama has gone over in four of their last five.
