Georgia Southern Eagles vs East Carolina Pirates Picks and Prediction for Tuesday, November 4, 2025

By: Robert Antuann Published 11/04/2025, 03:57 AM ET

The 2025–26 season opener for the East Carolina Pirates has the Pirates hosting the Georgia Southern Eagles at Minges Coliseum on Tuesday at 7:00 PM ET, available on ESPN+. Coming off a year with slight improvement, Georgia Southern, 17-16, 8-10 Sun Belt, enters year three under head coach Charlie Henry, while East Carolina, 15-17, 7-11 in the American Athletic, starts its fourth season under Michael Schwartz. Clean breakdowns — NCAAB predictions for Georgia Southern Eagles vs East Carolina Pirates.

Eagles Look to Find Chemistry with Overhauled Roster

Georgia Southern enters the new year with just two returning players from last season's 17-16 squad, ranking as one of the biggest roster resets in the Sun Belt Conference. The eighth-place Eagles lost a majority of their roster through the transfer portal, including leading scorer Adante' Holiman and leading rebounder Tyson Brown. Trying to gel 15 new faces at every position will be a challenge in the up-tempo offense that saw success late last year.

The two returning players and new faces will be joined in the backcourt by Tyren Moore, who returns to Statesboro after a year at UAB. Moore has led the conference in scoring at 17 points per game, shot over 40 percent from three in 2023–24, and was named preseason First-Team All-Sun Belt. Another addition is graduate transfer Jefferson Koulibaly from Pacific, adding experience and scoring. Up front, transfers Alden Applewhite from Murray State and Tsvet Sotirov from Northern Illinois will provide bodies in the paint, with each able to play inside or out.

Newcomers from smaller programs also could earn immediate roles. Division II standout Spudd Webb averaged 20.6 points and six rebounds last season, and JUCO guard Khayri Dunn and freshman Jayden Williams will see minutes as the year develops. With so many fresh faces, the Eagles' early games will be about establishing their player rotations and defining roles.

ECU Opens Season with Depth and Experience

East Carolina enters the season optimistic and with returning experience. The Pirates went 15-17 overall and 7-11 in the American Athletic Conference a year ago, showing improved form toward the end of the season. Fourth-year head coach Michael Schwartz has called this roster “a really coachable group,” and early practices have shown good chemistry between the returners and newcomers.

The backcourt remains the strength of the Pirates, with Jordan Riley, one of the top two-way guards in the AAC, leading the charge. Riley averaged 14.5 points and six rebounds per game while leading the conference in steals a season ago. He returns as the centerpiece of the offense and the best defender. Returning forwards Jayshayne Woodard and Trevion LaBeaux, both JUCO transfers from last season, give ECU an excellent defensive foundation. The Pirates will be relying on those three for scoring as they work several transfers and freshmen into the lineup.

The frontcourt has been improved by George Mason transfer Giovanni Emejuru, who shot 67.4 percent from the field last season, and William & Mary transfer Isaiah Mbeng, a former CAA All-Rookie Team selection. JUCO transfer Corey Caulker adds scoring after averaging 13.4 points at Eastern Florida State. Providence transfer Eli DeLaurier and New Orleans transfer Luke Davis give the Pirates a strong frontcourt. There's also a four-man freshman class, led by Daithi Quinn and Paddy D'Arcy, who impressed early with their passing and shooting touch.

Returning experience, leadership, and scoring, plus defensive intensity, make ECU a tough opening opponent. With the home crowd behind them, the Pirates will look to push the pace, control the glass, and test Georgia Southern’s 15 new players.

Georgia Southern Eagles vs. East Carolina Pirates Pick

Spread Pick for Georgia Southern vs. ECU

  • East Carolina Pirates (-6.5, 4 Units)

That mix of returning players and improved frontcourt should give East Carolina the advantage in this season opener. Georgia Southern is still learning how to mesh a completely new roster, which is going to take some time. Practice helps, but live game action is needed for the Eagles to fully become a team. Jordan Riley will set the tone defensively, leading the Pirates to a double-digit win at home.

Over/Under Pick for Georgia Southern vs. ECU

  • Under 142.5 (4 Units)

Both teams are adding new pieces and lineups that remain untested, which tends to slow down scoring throughout the first month of the year. The Georgia Southern offense will need isolation scoring from Moore while ECU can control the pace of the game on offense with its returning core and will have newfound, improved rim protection in its defense. It should be a very physical, slower game and under the projected total.
