Maryland vs. Marquette, Picks and Prediction, Saturday, November 15, 2025
Coach Buzz Williams returns to Milwaukee in this Maryland vs. Marquette prediction. Last season, these teams met in College Park with the Golden Eagles winning 78-74 as a 2.5-point underdog. Maryland has opened with a 2-1 record, with their last game coming against Alcorn State (84-64 win). This will be their first road game. Marquette (3-1) bounced back with a 89-49 win over Little Rock after getting crushed by Indiana at home 100-77 on Nov. 9. Check out this analysis and more college basketball picks at Stat Salt.
Terps are brand new
Buzz Williams is a well-traveled coach who started at New Orleans for one season, moved on to Marquette as an assistant, and coached there from 2008-14 before moving on to Virginia Tech and Texas A&M. This season, he took over at Maryland for Kevin Willard, who bolted right after the NCAA Tournament to Villanova. The Terps not only had to replace the coach but the entire team, who graduated, left for the NBA, or went to the transfer portal.
The mass exodus has shown in their results as they were beaten at home by local rival Georgetown 70-60 last Friday at home. Injuries have also been an issue, as point guard Myles Rice (ankle) is questionable. He scored 19 points against the Hoyas, but missed their wins over Alcorn State and Coppin State (83-61) to open the season. Rice averaged 10.1 points per game at Indiana last season on 41.2% shooting. Forward Solomon Washington, who came with Williams from Texas A&M, has not played yet this season due to injury. He averaged 4.9 points and 5.3 rebounds for the Aggies last season.
In three games, Maryland is averaging 76 points per game, but they are shooting just 40.5% from the field and 28.2% from long range. On defense, they've been solid, holding teams to 42.3% shooting and 33.9% from long range.

Marquette bounces back
The Golden Eagles were embarrassed by Indiana by 23 points on Nov. 9 at home. They bounced back to defeat Little Rock by 40 at home on Wednesday. Chase Ross (6-5, 210) led the way with 16 points and five assists for Marquette. This was a bench game as Ross played just 23 minutes and head coach Shaka Smart was able to play 15 players, including walk-ons. Marquette shot 52% from the field and 43% from beyond the arc.
Ross leads the team with 18.3 points and 4.0 assists per game. He was one of two starters who returned from a 23-11 team. Kam Jones, now with the Indiana Pacers, scored 28 points against Maryland last season and averaged 19.2 points per game for the Golden Eagles last season. Ben Gold (6-11, 235) is the other returning starter, who averages 9.0 points per game and 8.5 rebounds this season.
The Golden Eagles average 86.5 points and shoot 45.6% from the field (33.3% 3pt). They allow 39.4% shooting from the field and 33% from long range.

Spread Pick for Maryland vs. Marquette
Maryland vs. Marquette Pick and Prediction
- Marquette to cover (4 units)
I'm not betting on this Maryland team right now, especially in their first road game with several key injuries and a brand new roster in their fourth game. Marquette got worked against another Big 10 team in Indiana, but the Terps are not nearly as good. Shaka Smart's team will create havoc with their pressure defense and create turnovers against a Maryland team that is 103rd in Offensive Rating on KenPom, and their SOS is 332. Not exactly a revenge game with a brand new team and coaching staff for Maryland.
Total Pick for Maryland vs. Marquette
- Under (4 units)
Both teams are solid defensively, with Marquette ranking 41st in Adjusted Defensive Efficiency and Maryland ranked 19th. Williams' teams at Texas A&M always played defense. Marquette is also trying to figure out who can replace Jones' offense other than Chase Ross. Maryland really doesn't have an identity on offense right now.
