Wildcats looking to rebound from loss at Virginia
Northwestern caught a reality check after dominating their first three non-conference opponents by an average margin of over 31 points. On Nov.14, they edged local rival DePaul on the road by just two points, giving 7. They opened the Greenbrier Tip-Off with an 83-78 loss to Virginia, despite shooting 46% from the field. The problem came on the boards, where they were outrebounded 49-25. UVa made 30 of 36 from the line, which proved to be the difference.
Northwestern is led by forward Nick Martinelli, woh averages 20.5 points per game. However, he was held to just nine against the Cavaliers on 3-of-12 from the field. Arrinten Page, who has been rolling lately, led the Wildcats with 20 points. Page is a 6-11, 245-pound transfer from Cincinnati, who played sparingly with the Bearcats last season and USC in 2023-24.
The Wildcats can really shoot the ball as they are 23rd (40.7%) in three-point percentage and 34th in field goal percentage (51%).
Spread Pick for South Carolina vs. Northwestern
South Carolina vs. Northwestern Prediction and ATS Pick
- South Carolina +6.5 (4 units)
These tournament games are never easy, though this is not a tournament game per say. This was scheduled, but it is a neutral site game. South Carolina has some solid transfers led by Knox and Mike Sharavjamts, who comes over from Utah and is shooting 43.8% from beyond the arc. Northwestern is solid overall against the three, but they don't rebound well. They were crushed on the boards against DePaul and nearly lost that game. They rank 193rd in total rebounding rate, about 20 spots lower than South Carolina.
- Under 139.5 (4 units)
Northwestern can shoot, but they want a slow pace (277th) as does South Carolina who ranks 274th in Adjusted Tempo according to KenPom. There also might be a slight fatigue factor as both teams played on Friday. Both teams went over on Friday against quicker teams. The pace will be much slower in Sunday's afternoon showdown.
