UConn vs Michigan Picks and Prediction for Friday November 6 2026
UConn and Michigan meet Friday night at TD Garden in Boston, with tipoff set for 8 PM ET on TNT and truTV. Seven months ago, Michigan beat the Huskies 69-63 for the national championship. Now the Wolverines are getting 5.5 points against UConn on a neutral floor. The Huskies are ranked fourth, Michigan is 16th, and the total is sitting around 146.5. I don’t care how early it is in the season. This is a pretty good basketball game for the first week of November. Get in on the action with our free college basketball picks.
UConn Has Something to Settle
UConn is 1-0 after beating Gardner-Webb 86-46 in its opener. That’s exactly what you’d expect from a team with national championship expectations. The Huskies took care of an overmatched opponent, didn’t let things get interesting, and moved on. But beating Gardner-Webb by 40 doesn’t tell us everything about how they’ll handle Michigan.
The Huskies shot 31-for-60 from the field and grabbed 46 rebounds in that opener. That’s good production, although the competition matters. UConn wants to make teams defend through long possessions, get quality looks, and use its size to control the glass. Michigan isn’t going to give up those chances nearly as easily. That’s where this gets interesting.
Braylon Mullins scored 20 points and knocked down four three-pointers in the opener. Na’jai Hines pulled down 12 rebounds, while Silas Demary Jr. handed out eight assists. Those are encouraging numbers for UConn, but they’re all from one game. Michigan has the guards to make life uncomfortable, and the Huskies are going to need more than a couple of hot shooting stretches.
Michigan Already Knows It Can Beat UConn
Michigan is 1-0 after opening with a win over Oakland. The Wolverines scored 48 points in the paint and grabbed 42 rebounds. That’s a good start, but this is a much different assignment. UConn is going to contest those interior looks, and Michigan won’t be able to count on getting easy baskets all night.
What I like about the Wolverines is that they aren’t walking into this game wondering whether they belong. They beat UConn in April, and the guards who helped make that happen are still important to this team. Michigan can play through its backcourt, attack the paint, and make the Huskies defend without the ball. The big question is whether the Wolverines can handle UConn’s size for 40 minutes.
Roddy Gayle Jr. scored 17 points on 7-for-11 shooting against Oakland. J.P. Estrella grabbed 12 rebounds, and Elliot Cadeau finished with six assists. That’s a decent mix of scoring, rebounding, and playmaking. Michigan’s frontcourt availability deserves a final check, particularly with questions surrounding its center rotation. If the Wolverines are short inside, that’s where UConn could start to pull away.
UConn vs Michigan Picks and Prediction
Spread Pick: Michigan +5.5 (-110)
I’ll take Michigan and the 5.5 points. UConn might be the better team, and playing in Boston isn’t exactly a bad arrangement for the Huskies. But we’re talking about a neutral-floor rematch of a national championship game that Michigan won by six points. The Wolverines have enough backcourt experience to keep this competitive, and I don’t see a good reason to lay nearly two possessions against them this early. UConn could dominate the glass if Michigan is short-handed inside. That’s the risk. But I’ll take the points and trust Michigan to make the Huskies earn everything.
Total Pick: Under 146.5 (-110)
Give me the under 146.5. UConn scored 86 in its opener, and Michigan looked good attacking the paint against Oakland. Fine. Those were different opponents. When these teams met for the title in April, they combined for 132 points. I expect both coaches to care a lot more about defensive assignments and limiting second chances than pushing the pace. The danger is a hot three-point shooting night or a parade to the free-throw line. But I think both teams make the other work for good shots. I’ll take the under.
Final Picks: Michigan +5.5 (-110) | Under 146.5 (-110)
