USC vs Iowa picks are in focus for this Big Ten matchup, and this game checks a lot of boxes for bettors hunting value in college basketball picks. Iowa has drawn early market support at home, but the number has crept into uncomfortable territory for anyone thinking about laying points.

TLDR - Picks and Prediction

  • Spread Pick: USC +10.5
  • Total Pick: Under 141.5
  • Projected Final Score: Iowa 72, USC 64
  • Iowa plays at a bottom-25 pace nationally and has been involved in only one game since early December with more than 66 possessions.
  • USC ranks last in the Big Ten in effective field goal percentage and three-point shooting in conference play.
  • Iowa has nearly been upset twice as a heavy favorite, losing outright to Minnesota and nearly losing to Rutgers as a 17.5-point favorite.
  • USC has been unreliable offensively but remains strong enough defensively to shorten games.
  • The market has pushed Iowa into double-digit favorite territory.

USC vs Iowa Game Preview and Analysis

Iowa has taken early money in this Big Ten battle, and it makes sense on the surface. The Hawkeyes get USC at home after the Trojans picked up a big road win at Wisconsin, and Iowa also has extra time to prepare. Ben McCollum is one of the best game planners in the country, and Iowa usually executes well in controlled environments.

The issue for me is the number. Laying double digits with a team that plays this slow is always risky. Iowa prefers a grind, and that style naturally keeps margins tighter. USC has been poor offensively in conference play, but the Trojans defend well enough to avoid getting blown out in most spots.

The biggest wild card is freshman Alijah Arenas. His shooting numbers have been rough so far, but his presence gives Eric Musselman another rotation option that USC did not have earlier. Even if Arenas does not score efficiently, the added depth matters in a slow, physical game.

Iowa’s recent history as a big favorite also matters. The Hawkeyes lost outright to Minnesota as a moderate favorite and nearly lost to Rutgers despite laying a massive number. That makes it hard for me to trust them to separate late against a defensive-minded opponent.

Key Injuries and Notes for USC and IOWA

  • USC: Alijah Arenas recently added to the rotation, still finding his offensive rhythm.
  • Iowa: No major new injuries reported coming into this matchup.
  • Iowa has extra rest and preparation time compared to USC.

Final Score Prediction

This sets up as a slow, half-court game where possessions are valued and points are earned.

Iowa 72, USC 64

ATS and Total Picks

  • Against the Spread: USC +10.5
  • Total: Under 141.5
