Wofford looks to shock the country

The Wofford Terriers come into the 2026-27 season looking to improve on last year's campaign. Wofford finished the year 19-13 but dropped five of their last seven games overall, including two in a row to end the season. Wofford lost its top three scorers from last year's team to the transfer portal in the offseason. Chace Watley left a year ago and returned this season after averaging 9.7 points on nearly 40% shooting from the floor.

Wofford has added several new pieces to the roster to fill the void left by what they lost from last year. Freshmen Jyi Dawkins, Jhett Carter, and Jemon Proce anchor their incoming class. Misho Klainov is an international guard from Bulgaria, and big man Cutter Sisk also joins the Terriers this year. Chris Arias, Evan Ramsey, Jacob Daniels, and Cam Lowe also join the Terriers this year via the transfer portal.

Tennessee hunts the statement

The Tennessee Volunteers come into this year looking to repeat last year's success. Tennessee finished last season with 25 wins following an Elite Eight loss to the eventual champion Michigan Wolverines. Dewayne Brown II is the top returning scorer from last year's team after averaging 4.8 points per game, as the Volunteers lost their top six producers from a year ago.

Tennessee found a ton of success with their recruiting, adding several key freshmen to the roster. Ralph Scott from IMG and Manny Green from Cedar Grove High School in Georgia lead the Tennessee recruits. Big man Christopher Washington and Marquis Clark are two more freshmen on campus. The Volunteers also found success in the transfer portal, adding Tyler Lundblade, Dai Dai Ames, Miles Rubin, Terrence Hill Jr., and Braeden Lue, giving the Vols a ton of new experience.

Wofford vs Tennessee Picks and Prediction

Pick: Tennessee Volunteers

Tennessee is the better team in this matchup and should have a significant advantage playing at home. The Volunteers have the size and athleticism necessary to cause problems for Wofford on both ends of the floor. Tennessee should be able to control the rebounding battle and create additional scoring opportunities by forcing turnovers. Wofford will need to shoot the ball well from the perimeter to stay competitive, but the Volunteers should be able to make things difficult with their defensive pressure. Tennessee also has the advantage of playing in front of its home crowd, which could help the Volunteers establish momentum early. Look for Tennessee to control the game and pull away for a comfortable victory.

Total Pick: Under

The under is the preferred play because Tennessee should be able to control the pace with its defense. The Volunteers have the size and physicality to make things difficult for Wofford around the basket, forcing the Terriers to rely heavily on perimeter shooting. Tennessee should create opportunities in transition, but the Volunteers won't necessarily need to play at a fast pace to build a comfortable lead. Wofford could struggle to find consistent offense if Tennessee establishes its defensive pressure early. The Volunteers should also control the rebounding battle, limiting second-chance opportunities for the Terriers. Expect Tennessee to dictate the tempo and keep Wofford from scoring enough to push this game toward a high total.

Final Picks: Tennessee Volunteers and Under
