Staying below four touchdowns is important, however, because the value declines considerably once the spread reaches the high 20s.

Pick: Under 51.5

Take the Under if the total is set at 51.5 or higher. Minnesota doesn't need a shootout to dominate this matchup. The preferred game script has the Gophers controlling possession, limiting Akron's scoring opportunities and eventually building a comfortable lead. Something around Minnesota 34, Akron 10 would produce a convincing Minnesota victory while staying below the target total.
