How will Arkansas look after Petrino's overhaul?

Athletic director Hunter Yurachek wasted little time after the Arkansas Razorbacks' 56-13 loss to No. 22 Notre Dame two weeks ago, firing head coach Sam Pittman and appointing offensive coordinator Bobby Petrino as the interim head coach. A day later, Petrino dismissed defensive coordinator Travis Williams, defensive line coach Deke Adams, and defensive assistant Marcus Woodson. While the Razorbacks' rostered players are unchanged, it's anyone's guess how they'll look in the team's first game with Petrino as head coach since 2011.

Heading into Week 7, the Razorbacks rank 18th in passing yards (300.8), 21st in rushing yards (213.8), T-28th in points (37.4), and 112th in points allowed (30.0) per game among FBS teams. Their 2-3 record includes home wins over FCS Alabama A&M (52-7) and Arkansas State (56-14), but those numbers still don't align with the team's overall record. The Razorbacks led for most of their 32-31 loss to Memphis before giving up a 64-yard touchdown in the final two minutes, and they played a close contest against No. 17 Ole Miss at home before falling 41-35.

The team's loss to the Irish two weeks ago was easily the worst of the season. Senior quarterback Taylen Green completed 17 of 32 passes for 207 yards, averaging only 6.5 yards per attempt and a 53.1 completion percentage, while also leading the team on the ground with 81 rushing yards. Notre Dame racked up 641 total yards to Arkansas' 365, 32 first downs to Arkansas' 15, and didn't commit a turnover while Arkansas gave the ball away twice. The Razorbacks were outscored 14-3 in the first quarter and 28-10 in the second. Their three second-half drives ended in an incomplete pass on fourth down, a sack on fourth down, and an interception from Green, respectively. It'll be hard for the offense to look worse in Week 7, even on the road against Tennessee.

Tennessee enters Week 7 with the highest-scoring FBS offense

The Tennessee Volunteers are 4-1 overall, 1-1 in SEC play, and No. 12 in the AP Top 25 heading into Week 7 of the college football season. They're coming off a bye week after a dramatic road win over the Mississippi State Bulldogs, who entered the game 4-0 before losing to the Vols in overtime.

In his first season at Tennessee, senior quarterback Joey Aguilar has now gone to overtime twice in as many games against SEC opponents. He completed 24 of 40 passes against the Bulldogs, throwing for 335 yards and a touchdown while adding 21 yards and another touchdown on the ground. He racked up 223 of those yards on 12 completions to receivers Mike Matthews and Chris Brazzell II, the latter of whom ranks 8th among FBS receivers in yards (502) and ties Arizona State's Jordyn Tyson for the lead in touchdowns (7) heading into Week 7.

As a team, the Volunteers rank 4th in the FBS in passing yards (337.2) and lead the country in points (51.0) per game. They'll look to lean on that offense this Saturday to deliver Vols fans their first win over Arkansas since 2007.

Arkansas vs. Tennessee Pick

Spread Pick for Arkansas vs. Tennessee

  • Arkansas +12.5 (-110) (4 Units)

The Razorbacks' new defensive braintrust couldn't have asked for a bigger challenge in their first game than the Vols, but Tennessee hasn't blown out an SEC opponent this year – they went to overtime against both Georgia and Mississippi State. Arkansas only lost 41-35 when they hosted Ole Miss – now the No. 4 team in the AP Top 25 – earlier this season, and they beat Tennessee 19-14 a year ago. The Petrino gambit was bold and might blow up in the Razorbacks' faces, but I'd take them to cover as 12.5-point underdogs against the Vols from what else we know about them.

Over/Under Pick for Arkansas vs. Tennessee

  • Over 68.5 (-110) (5 Units)

The Team Total Over is 5-0 in Vols games this season and 4-1 in Razorbacks games. The lowest-scoring game Tennessee has played so far this season was their 45-26 win over Syracuse in Week 1, which still finished with 71 total points scored. Arkansas has allowed an average of 43 points per game over their last three. If the oddsmakers keep the total line below 70, take the over on Tennessee until they fail to hit it.
