Arkansas loses another close, ugly game
The Arkansas Razorbacks are 2-8 overall and 0-6 in SEC play, putting them firmly at the bottom of the conference standings. They haven't won since routing Arkansas State 56-14 in September, but they've come within striking distance of breaking their losing streak against some of their more recent SEC opponents. Their closest loss yet came at LSU last week, where the Razorbacks lost 23-22 after leading for most of the first three quarters.
Neither of these teams played particularly well last Saturday–Arkansas took possession first, fumbled the ball away after six plays, and scored their first points on a blocked punt return three plays later. Taylen Green led a drive to put the Razorbacks up 14-0 on their next possession, running in the touchdown himself, but he also threw two interceptions in the second quarter to allow 16 unanswered points to the Tigers. Green finished the game having completed 11 of 19 passes for 165 yards, no touchdowns, two interceptions, and four sacks taken. His ground game contributions were significant, but he gained 55 of his 70 rushing yards on one of his 17 carries. Put another way, he was one big break away from only finishing this game with 15 rushing yards on 16 credited attempts. All told, the Razorbacks finished with 50 fewer yards, five fewer first downs, and three more turnovers than the Tigers, while converting on only two of 11 third-down attempts.
Arkansas ranks 33rd among FBS teams in passing yards per game (264.6), but Green has finished with fewer than 200 passing yards in each of the team's last two games. They're 19th in rushing yards per game (205.4) and 25th in points per game (34.1), but tied for 122nd in points allowed per game (32.3). The Razorbacks have lost by one-score margins to several ranked opponents this season–Ole Miss (41-35), Tennessee (34-31), and Texas A&M (45-42) among them. They also lost 33-24 against Auburn, a team that's currently 14th in the SEC standings with no other conference wins.

Texas falls 35-10 to Georgia
The Texas Longhorns enter Week 13 of the college football season with a 7-3 overall record, in fifth in the SEC standings, and ranked 17th in the College Football Playoff Rankings. They dropped their most recent game, on the road against the fifth-ranked Georgia Bulldogs, by a score of 35-10.
Last Saturday's game wasn't nearly as one-sided as the score would suggest. Georgia outgained Texas by only 83 yards and six first downs, and they were only up 14-10 at the end of the third quarter. The fourth quarter, of course, saw the Bulldogs pile on 21 points while the Longhorns failed to do much of anything. Georgia scored a touchdown on their first possession of the quarter, converted an onside kick into another touchdown drive, and then drove for a third touchdown after Texas lost four yards on three plays. Texas executed its longest drive of the game on its next possession, but it ended in a turnover on downs after three of four passes from Arch Manning fell incomplete.
Manning completed 27 of 43 passes for 251 yards, a touchdown, and an interception. Gunnar Stockton, on the other side, completed 24 of 29 passes for 229 yards, four touchdowns, and an interception. Georgia gained 128 yards on the ground across 35 carries; Texas gained 23 yards across 17 carries. It was a letdown of a game for the Longhorns' offense, and one they'll be looking to bounce back from against a more exploitable Razorbacks defense.
Arkansas vs. Texas Pick
Spread Pick for Arkansas vs. Texas
- Arkansas +9.0 (-110) (4 Units)
The Longhorns still rank among the best teams in the country in points allowed per game (18.3), but they've allowed 30 or more points to each of their last three opponents after holding each of their first seven to fewer. They've only pulled off one win by a multiple-score margin (23-6 against Oklahoma) against an SEC opponent this season, and they're hosting a Razorbacks team that's inexplicably played close games against vastly superior competition this season. Texas is 2-7-1 against the spread this season–I don't see that getting better here as long as they're favored to win by nine points.
Over/Under Pick for Arkansas vs. Texas
- Under 57.5 (-105) (4 Units)
The line here is 57.5, the same as the pregame total in the Razorbacks' 23-22 loss at LSU. The Team Total Under hit in that game, just as it hit in the Longhorns' 35-10 loss to Georgia last week (under 50.5). This is the highest pregame total line that Texas has seen all season, and only two of their ten games thus far (45-38 at Mississippi State, 34-31 at Vanderbilt) have ended with 58 or more total points being scored.
