Army looks to bounce back

Army (5-5, 3-4 in AAC) suffered a bad loss in its last outing to halt a run of back-to-back wins and fall the conference standings. The Black Knights were beaten 26-25 by Tulsa in West Point, handing the visitors their first AAC win of the year after giving up 12 unanswered points in the fourth quarter. That result cut a good run for Army, which went down narrowly to powerful Tulane before posting victories over Air Force and Temple.

Cale Hellums was the star of the show even in defeat against Tulsa as he anchored Army's rush-heavy offense. Hellums put up 159 yards on the ground on 32 carries and got over for all of Army's three touchdowns. In the air he threw 6-10 for 64 yards and an interception. The junior leads all FBS QBs with 988 rushing yards in 2025 while his mark of 15 rushing TDs ranks fifth among all Division I players. The Black Knights run the ball more than any other team in college football, opting to rush on 86.7% of their plays this season.

There are a couple of injury worries for Army ahead of Saturday. Right guard Paolo Gennarelli missed out against Tulsa and remains questionable. Running back Briggs Bartosh (44 carries, 246 yards, one TD in 2025) is also questionable.

UTSA heading to a bowl

There was reason to celebrate last week for UTSA (6-5, 4-3 AAC) as the Roadrunners clinched bowl eligibility with a crushing win over East Carolina. UTSA also extended its home conference winning streak to 23 games, making it the only program not to have lost a single home regular-season conference game in the 2020s.

UTSA once more dominated offensively to take down East Carolina 58-24 in Week 13. Owen McCown threw a career-high five touchdowns on his way to a 248-yard game, with each TD catch being made by a different UTSA receiver. The Roadrunners recorded a total of 458 yards while also forcing the visiting team to give up three turnovers on the other side of the ball.

McCown is tied for eighth this season among D-I quarterbacks with 25 passing TDs while he has also done well to reduce picks, trimming his interception percentage from 2.1% in 2024 to 1.8% this year, ranking 33th among FBS QBs. Devin McCuin has been McCown's most reliable outlet, making 52 catches for a team-high 567 yards (10.9 Y/R) and seven TDs. The Roadrunners are waiting on McCuin for Saturday as the wide receiver is listed as questionable with an undisclosed injury. Starting RB Robert Henry (undisclosed) is also listed as questionable for UTSA.

Army vs. UTSA pick

Spread Pick for Army vs. UTSA

  • UTSA -7.5 (5 units)

UTSA has been overwhelming on offense in recent weeks, especially in front of its own fans, putting up 48 points against No. 24 Tulane and then breaking 50 to beat East Carolina. I think McCown's arm will be too hot for Army as the Roadrunners come through to take the win and cover on Saturday. UTSA is 4-1 ATS playing at home in 2025 and 6-5 overall. Army has gone 4-6 ATS this year. The Black Knights' defense gave up more than 250 passing yards in losses to Tulane and Tulsa and this UTSA offense should be able to handle them.

Take the Road Runners.

Over/Under Pick for Army vs. UTSA

  • Over 52 (5 units)

The Alamodome has seen some big scores lately and I am backing that trend to continue. UTSA ranks 21st in Division I with an average of 33.3 ppg and that number jumps to an incredible 50.8 ppg at home, the highest average of any FBS team. The Roadrunners are 8-3 on the over in 2025 and 5-0 in front of their own fans. They have been vulnerable to the running game, allowing 160.9 rushing yards per game, an encouraging sign for Army as it looks to run up a big score of its own.

Take the over.
