How will Auburn's record translate to SEC competition?
The Auburn Tigers enter Week 4 of the 2025 college football season at 3-0, No. 22 in the AP Top 25, and as the tenth of eleven ranked SEC teams – two spots behind Vanderbilt, one spot ahead of Missouri, and eleven spots behind the Oklahoma team they'll be facing on Saturday. Between the Sooners and the three other currently-ranked teams in line to play Auburn after them, we'll find out sooner than later if the Tigers are a contender this season.
Week 3 saw the Tigers win 31-15 over the South Alabama Jaguars, falling short of covering a 25.5-point spread in a deceptively close game. The Tigers only outgained the Jaguars by 27 total yards, gained 19 first downs to the Jaguars' 20, and went 7-of-13 on third down while the Jaguars went 7-of-16. Each team opened the game with a 12-play scoring drive; Auburn scored a touchdown while South Alabama kicked a field goal. The dam broke when the Tigers ran three straight touchdown drives in the second quarter, but it was rebuilt ahead of a second half that saw the teams combine for nine points. South Alabama didn't struggle to stay on the field on offense, staying on the field for ten or more plays on five of their seven drives. That the Tigers played a clean game on the turnover front, while forcing two from the Jaguars, was likely the most significant factor in the score being what it was.
Heading into Week 4, Auburn ranks 110th in passing yards per game (173.7) and 16th in rushing yards per game (242.0). Junior quarterback Jackson Arnold has as many touchdowns through the air – four – as he does on the ground, while junior back Jeremiah Cobb has averaged 6.8 yards per carry across 46 attempts and logged four touchdowns of his own. The ground game should translate well to the team's conference schedule, but Arnold's middling passing numbers are primarily carried by his performance in the team's 42-3 win over Ball State. We're still waiting to find out whether this team can air it out if they need to against premier competition.

Oklahoma Sooners Looking for first SEC win
The Oklahoma Sooners are 3-0 heading into Week 4 after sandwiching a 24-13 win over a ranked Michigan team with decisive wins over Illinois State (35-3) and Temple (42-3). They're hosting No. 22 Auburn this week as the 11th-ranked team in the AP Top 25. Can they start their SEC schedule on a strong note, with a gauntlet of ranked teams awaiting them in October and November?
No part of the Sooners' 42-3 win over the Temple Owls last week was competitive. They gained 515 yards on offense while allowing only 105 on defense, converting 29 first downs to the Owls' seven. Four of the Owls' first five offensive drives ended after three plays; all of their first six offensive drives ended in punts. If John Mateer hadn't thrown an interception near the end of the half to give Temple possession 13 yards away from the end zone, they wouldn't have the three points they finished the game with.
Despite entering Week 4 with the sixth-lowest average for points allowed per game (6.3) in the FBS, the Sooners' defense has yet to force a turnover – they've logged seven sacks and broken up ten passes, but haven't recorded an interception or recovered a fumble. We'll see how that translates to an SEC schedule that'll throw harder offenses at the unit and give the Sooners' own offense less margin for error.
Auburn vs Oklahoma Pick
Spread Pick for Auburn vs Oklahoma
- Oklahoma -6.5 (-115) (4 Units)
The Sooners will bring one of the nation's best scoring defenses to a home game against a Tigers offense that still needs to find their top gear. If Oklahoma starts pulling away here and forces Auburn to play from behind, their lead could quickly compound if Arnold and the Tigers' passing attack can't effectively air it out. With the spread being just a touchdown, I'm not hesitant to take Oklahoma.
Over/Under Pick for Auburn vs Oklahoma
- Under 46.5 (-105) (4 Units)
The Team Total Under is 2-1 in Auburn games this season and 3-0 in Oklahoma games. The Sooners' defense has yet to allow more than 13 points to an opponent; the Tigers could certainly exceed that, but don't expect them to put up 30 like they have against their recent opponents. Oklahoma's offense will face more friction moving up and down the field against Auburn than it did against Temple.
