Michigan State will host Boston College on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. EST in Spartan Stadium. Check out our Boston College Eagles vs Michigan State Spartans pick and prediction here!

Each team is 1-0 and looking to keep their undefeated record intact. While neither team is yet ranked, both are hoping to bring back their programs to relevance and look to make a statement win after some notable transfers to their respective programs. Michigan State is currently favored by 4.5 points while the total is set at 46.5 points.

BC dominates FCS opponent

The Eagles annihilated Fordham by a score of 66-10 in the first week of the regular season. Dylan Lonergan had a terrific first start for his new team, throwing four touchdowns with no interceptions while completing 26/34 passes for 268 yards. The rushing game was virtually non-existent, however, with Turbo Richard earning only 48 yards on 16 carries but still scoring a touchdown. Alex Broome and Bo MacCormack III also earned a rushing touchdown each. Lewis Bond was the leading receiver with 11 receptions and 138 yards while Jaedn Skeete had two touchdown receptions. Dawson Pough was second on the team with 96 yards receiving and caught a touchdown pass, while Reed Harris and Jordan McDonald also had a touchdown reception. Daveon Crouch had five tackles, a sack, and an interception to lead the team.

Boston College will have 17 incoming transfers and 18 outgoing transfers. CB Ryan Turner is the biggest name to depart from the program and QB Tommy Castellanos left for Florida State. Arriving onto the team are WR VJ Wilkins and QB Dylan Lonergan, the latter coming from Alabama. Boston College will be looking at a new team at key positions this season and they are hoping it can propel them to the next level.

Spartans take care of Western Michigan

Michigan State earned their first win of the season with a 23-6 win over Western Michigan. Aidan Chiles went 17/23 for 155 yards and a touchdown while Makhi Frazier eclipsed 100 yards rushing on 14 carries with a touchdown. Brandon Tullis also had a rushing touchdown and was second on the team in rushing with 52 yards. Nick Marsh caught the lone touchdown pass, but Omari Kelly had the most receptions and yards with seven and 75 yards. Malik Spencer led the Spartan defense with four tackles and a sack while Wayne Matthews II had an interception to his name.

Michigan State has 23 incoming transfers and 23 outgoing transfers for this upcoming season. CB Joshua Eaton is the top incoming recruit for the Spartans, but CB Charles Brantley was the top recruit to leave the program. Omari Kelly and Conner Moore round out the top incoming transfers while Aziah Johnson was the only other one in the top seven to transfer out of the university. The Spartans are hoping these transfers can help them on the climb back to relevance.

Boston College vs. Michigan State pick

Spread Pick for BC vs. Michigan State

  • Boston College +4.5 (4 units)

I like Boston College to cover the spread here, as they have covered six of their last seven games dating back to last year. Michigan State on the other hand, has failed to cover the spread in their last six games. Lonergan has impressed me after his solid first week at BC and Michigan State didn't do enough on offense against a weaker opponent in Western Michigan to feel as confident. Based on the potential of BC's offensive output, I expect them to make this close at the very least. (Boston College +4.5)

Over/Under Pick for Boston College vs. Michigan State pick

  • Over 46.5 (4 units)

Considering how well Boston College performed on offense through the passing game last week, I feel confident taking the over. Lonergan looked solid and while it was against Fordham, I have faith in the man who was once recruited to play for Alabama. Michigan State has failed to cover the spread in their last six games, meaning they give up points quite a bit. While they gave up only six points to Western Michigan, Boston College will present a bigger challenge for the defense. I suspect each team will try to match their offensive opponent and will run up the score. (Over 46.5)
