The Bucknell Bison visit the Pittsburgh Panthers at Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, September 26, 2026. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:00 PM ET with coverage on ACC Network Extra. Bucknell enters at 1-3 after a 20-7 loss to Penn, while Pittsburgh is a perfect 3-0 following victories over Miami (Ohio), UCF and Syracuse. The Panthers have won all three previous meetings between these programs without allowing Bucknell to score. At the time of this writing the odds were not released. Bucknell Faces a Massive Step Up

Bucknell’s 1-3 record includes a 35-14 loss at Richmond, a narrow 17-16 loss to Villanova, a 14-3 victory at VMI and last week’s 20-7 home loss to Penn. The Bison have therefore scored only 51 points through four games, an average of 12.8 per conteState Three of their four games have finished with Bucknell scoring 16 points or fewer.

That offensive production becomes especially concerning against Pittsburgh. Bucknell has demonstrated some defensive resistance, particularly in the 14-3 victory over VMI and the one-point loss to Villanova, but the Bison haven’t faced an opponent with Pittsburgh’s combination of FBS size, depth and athleticism.

The best route for Bucknell is shortening the game, avoiding turnovers and forcing Pittsburgh to execute methodically. An open, high-possession contest would strongly favor the Panthers. Bucknell needs to prevent explosive plays and make Pittsburgh earn points over long drives.

Pittsburgh Has Dominated Its Opening Stretch

Pittsburgh is 3-0 and has handled three very different challenges. The Panthers opened with a 59-14 demolition of Miami (Ohio), survived UCF 12-7 and then defeated Syracuse 27-13. Pittsburgh has outscored those three opponents 98-34, giving the Panthers an average scoring margin of more than three touchdowns per game.

The UCF result showed Pittsburgh can win a low-scoring defensive battle, while the Miami result demonstrated the Panthers can overwhelm an inferior opponent. That versatility matters against Bucknell because Pittsburgh shouldn’t need to force anything offensively. If the Panthers control field position and avoid turnovers, their talent advantage should eventually create separation.

Pittsburgh also gets this game at Acrisure Stadium, where it has played each of its first three contests. That eliminates a potential letdown factor associated with travel. The greater concern for Pittsburgh bettors is whether the eventual spread becomes so large that the Panthers can dominate without necessarily covering it.

Bucknell vs Pittsburgh Picks and Prediction

Pick: Pittsburgh -28.5 or Better

This is a matchup where the number matters considerably. Bucknell has averaged fewer than 13 points through four games, while Pittsburgh has surrendered only 34 total points through three. Pittsburgh has also already produced a 45-point victory this season. If the Panthers are laying 28.5 or less, their advantages on both sides of the ball justify backing the favorite. Once the number climbs well into the 30s, the value becomes less attractive.

Pick: Under 51.5 or Higher

Bucknell’s offensive limitations create the under opportunity. The Bison have scored seven, 14, 16 and 14 points in their four games, and Pittsburgh has allowed 14, seven and 13. Pittsburgh could dominate this matchup without the game becoming a shootout. A result around 38-7 or 41-7 would comfortably support both selections.

Final Picks: Pittsburgh -28.5 or Better and Under 51.5 or Higher
