CCSU vs Toledo Picks and Prediction for Saturday September 12 2026
The Central Connecticut State Blue Devils travel to the Glass Bowl in Toledo, Ohio, to face the Toledo Rockets on Saturday, September 12. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 PM ET on ESPN+. CCSU is 0-1 after suffering a 59-20 loss at South Dakota, while Toledo is 0-1 following a competitive 30-20 defeat at Michigan State. At the time of this writing the odds were not released. CCSU Faces Another Difficult Road Assignment
Central Connecticut opened its season at South Dakota and actually scored first, putting together a 10-play, 63-yard touchdown drive. Things changed quickly after that, however, as South Dakota scored 21 consecutive points and eventually built a 42-10 halftime advantage.
The Blue Devils ultimately allowed 59 points, with South Dakota scoring touchdowns on eight consecutive possessions during one stretch. CCSU did manage 20 points against a strong FCS opponent, but the defensive performance creates obvious concerns before traveling to face an FBS team.
Central Connecticut has also had additional preparation time after playing its opener on August 29. The Blue Devils will need to use that advantage to improve defensively because Toledo demonstrated enough big-play ability against Michigan State to punish breakdowns.
Toledo Returns Home After Competitive Opener
Toledo lost 30-20 at Michigan State, but the Rockets were considerably more competitive than the final score might suggest. Toledo erased a 13-point deficit and actually took a 20-19 lead early in the fourth quarter before Michigan State responded.
John Alan Richter threw for 196 yards, while Connor Walendzak rushed for 76 yards and Adjatay Dabbs finished with 101 receiving yards. The Rockets produced only 273 total yards and 10 first downs, but explosive passing plays kept them competitive.
Toledo now takes a major drop in competition and plays its home opener at the Glass Bowl. After facing a Big Ten opponent on the road, the Rockets should have considerably more opportunities to establish their running game and sustain drives.
CCSU vs Toledo Picks and Prediction
Pick: Toledo -18.5 or Better
A conventional sportsbook line isn't consistently available, but Toledo -18.5 or better is my target. CCSU surrendered 59 points in its opener and allowed South Dakota to score touchdowns on eight consecutive possessions. Toledo just stayed competitive at Michigan State and now gets its home opener against an FCS opponent. If the market stays below three touchdowns, take Toledo -18.5 or better.
Pick: Over 51.5
For the total, Over 51.5 is my preferred target. Central Connecticut allowed 59 points at South Dakota but managed 20 offensively, while Toledo should find considerably more room after facing Michigan State. The Blue Devils' defensive problems create a path for the Rockets to reach the 40s, and one or two CCSU touchdowns could push the game over. Take Over 51.5 if that number is available.
Final Picks: Toledo -18.5 or better and Over 51.5
