Clemson vs. Georgia Tech predictions

ACC sides get conference play rolling in Atlanta on Saturday, and we’ll get you ready for the action with our Clemson vs. Georgia Tech predictions. The 12th-ranked Tigers (1-1 SU, 0-2 ATS) got on the winning track with a 27-16 victory over Troy last weekend, as -30.5 favorites at home. Georgia Tech (2-0 SU, 2-0 ATS) took it to Gardner-Webb last week, winning 59-12 as -37.5 favorites at home. Hyundai Field plays host to a Noon EST kickoff and if you crave more, you've come to the right place. We have the strongest College Football Picks.

Clemson nearly caught napping

Despite playing an excellent season opener against No. 9 LSU, which they eventually lost, 17-10, the Tigers looked a bit stale in reversing their fortunes. Against a team they were favored by -30.5 over, it took a second-half comeback to even pull out a victory. They could only muster a first-half field goal but outscored Troy, 24-0 in the second half to avoid disaster. Cade Klubnik went 18-24 for 196 passing yards, 2 TDs and an interception to lead the offense, which tallied 316 total yards and 17 first downs. Adam Randall added 112 yards and a touchdown via the rush. On defense, the Tigers gave up 301 total yards but only 78 rushing yards. Three different defenders picked off passes in the win and four players recorded a sack to help the defense secure things with the second-half shutout.

“I don't think really anybody felt panicked or anything,” said Klubnik in the wake of the win, via ESPN.com. “We know who we are. We believe that.”

After the dust settled from their first two games, the Tigers were averaging 18.5 points and 288.5 total yards per game on the offensive side of the ball. Their strength has been the passing game as the rush has stalled out to 75 yards per game, despite the efforts of Randall last week. Their 30 first downs are the second fewest among ACC schools and on third down, they were just 8-for-25. Defensively, Clemson has allowed 16.5 points and 328.5 total yards per game. They’ve held the opposition run game to 93 yards a game. They’ve recorded five sacks to go with their three interceptions this season.

Team notes

  • Klubnik has just 426 yards, 2 TDs, 2 INTs and has been sacked three times in two games.
  • Randall has 128 rushing yards, and no other Clemson player has more than eight.
  • Only eight different players have caught passes from Klubnik and only Bryany Wesco Jr. has found the end zone, doing so twice.
  • Three players on defense have double-digit tackle totals and defensive back Ronan Hanafin leads the team with 18.

Georgia Tech stands stoic after two

After picking off a nice season-opening win over Colorado, the Yellow Jackets followed up by handling business against FCS-side Gardner-Webb, leaving little to doubt in a 47-point victory. The team was able to score in every quarter of last week’s win while the defense allowed just six points in each of the first and fourth quarters. A balanced offense produced a hefty 680 total yards and 21 first downs. Aaron Philo, starting for the injured Haynes King, led the passing attack with 373 yards, a touchdown and an interception. Malachi Hosley ran for 100 yards and 2 TDs on just nine carries. Tech’s defense did allow 326 yards and 20 first downs but limited Gardner-Webb’s rushing attack to 2.5 yards per carry. They were able to force a fumble and were in the backfield all day, recording six sacks and 14 tackles for loss.

In rolling to a 2-0 SU mark to start the year, the Yellow Jackets' offense has been able to average 571.5 total yards, best among ACC teams, and 43 points per game. They’ve done an excellent job in balancing things, averaging 300 via the pass and 271.5 on the run. Those numbers helped them to 48 first downs and an 8-for-19 mark on third down chances. On defense, the Yellow Jackets have allowed an average of 16 points and 328.5 total yards per game. They’ve fared better versus the run, allowing only 93 yards per game but they’ve also gotten pressure on the pass game, forcing three picks while sacking the opposing quarterbacks five times.

Team notes

  • They rank 25th in the nation in passing efficiency with a 176.0 rating.
  • The offensive line is only one of 12 in the country yet to allow a sack, and they’ve allowed only five tackles for loss.
  • Defensive linemen Amontrae Bradford and Akelo Stone have two sacks apiece.
  • Three players have at least 147 rushing yards and 2 TDs each.

Clemson vs. Georgia Tech Picks

Spread Pick for Clemson vs. Georgia Tech

  • Georgia Tech +3 (5 units)

This is the 90th meeting between the two schools. Clemson has owned things of late, rattling off nine straight wins against the Yellow Jackets, with a 7-1-1 ATS record in that stretch. This is the smallest spread that the Tigers have been granted in their favors in this series since 2014. Once again, Dabo’s bunch is looking a bit timid. Their highly touted quarterback hasn’t impressed to this point, and he is going to have his hands full with a Yellow Jackets front that is relentless. If King returns under center for Tech, it will be an even bigger issue for Clemson. While the freshman Philo fared well in his debut and played without fear, King is the man here and his dual-threat ability opens the Jackets' offense up even more. The Yellow Jackets have not hosted Clemson on campus for five years and the crowd will bring the whiteout for this one. Georgia Tech is 50-36-2 SU in the head-to-head series and 6-1 SU against ranked ACC opponents under head coach Brent Key.

Take Georgia Tech getting the points at home.

Over/Under for Clemson vs. Georgia Tech

  • Over 52.5 (5 units)

These two last met in 2023 and combined for 63 points to hit over against a 53.5-point total. Clemson desperately needs to wake up and their offense needs to show up for this game. Klubnik has tons of hype on him, so he needs to step up in a big way. He has plenty of weapons to work with, and the Tigers are always super athletic, so they can break out big plays in a moment. Georgia Tech is loaded on offense, too and if they get King back, they’ll be able to pick apart the Tigers a bit easier. Even if they don’t, Philo seemed comfortable enough last weekend to get things moving in the right direction. The weather is going to be mid-70s and sunny, so that won’t be a factor at all, leaving clear skies for the teams to pass the day away. The over is 5-1 in the last six meetings between the schools.

Take the over.
