 Clemson looking for strong finish

There is still time left for the Tigers to save some face this season. They halted a two-game losing streak to move to 3-4 in conference play, and they have two ACC games remaining, though both are on the road.

The Tigers' offense has scored at least 24 points in each of their last five games, and on the year, they average 27.9 points per game, 10th in the ACC. Their total offense amounts to 409.3 yards per game, eighth best in the conference, and their passing offense ranks third, averaging 288.4 yards per game. Cade Klubnik connected on 74.1% of his passes for 221 yards and a TD in the win over Florida State. The senior QB has thrown for 2,136 yards, 14 TDs, and 5 INTs in eight games. Three players have over 30 catches on the year, and two have over 500 receiving yards and at least 4 TDs. The team averaged 120.9 yards per game behind Adam Randall’s 570 yards on 116 carries.

On defense, Clemson is giving up 22.4 points per game, ninth in the ACC. They are also ninth in yardage, giving up 351.3 per game. Against the run, they allow 106.2 yards, and against the pass, 245.1 yards per game. The Tigers have 25 sacks, third most in the conference, and they’ve intercepted five passes. Will Heidt leads the team and is tied for eighth in the ACC with 5 sacks. Sammy Brown is tied for tenth with 67 tackles, to go with 3 sacks and 3 pass deflections.

Team notes

  • Klubnik is looking to be the first Clemson QB to complete 70% of his passes in five consecutive games since Tahj Boyd in 2013.
  • Offensive lineman Walker Park will be playing in his 62nd career game, seventh most all-time for Clemson.
  • The team has gone three straight games without throwing an interception for the first time since a four-game stretch in 2023.
  • The team has averaged 34.4 points over five games since the start of October, tied for 19th best in the country.

Louisville with traffic ahead

Ranked 15th and heavily favored, the Cardinals offense squandered numerous chances to extend their winning streak to four games. They are 4-2 in the ACC with five teams ahead of them and three games to play.

The 26 points scored in last weekend’s loss were their second-lowest offensive output of the season. The Louisville offense averages 32.9 points, seventh in the ACC, and 401.4 total yards per game, 10th in the conference. The Cardinals rank 11th in the conference in passing, averaging 246.6 yards per game. Miller Moss had an interception against Cal, the third straight week that he’s been picked off. The senior has thrown for 2,132 yards with 11 TDs and 7 INTs this season. Chris Bell is third in the ACC with both 62 catches and 792 receiving yards. Isaac Brown ranks third in the conference with 782 rushing yards and leads the conference with 8.6 yards per carry. Brown (leg) is likely to miss this game after getting injured in a win at Virginia Tech two weeks ago. Keyuan Brown, who rushed for 136 yards on 14 carries against Cal, is expected to replace him.

Louisville has a defense that is allowing 21.7 points per game, seventh in the ACC, and 296.8 total yards, second best. They have the top passing defense in the conference, allowing 188.1 yards, while against the run, they are giving up 108.7 yards per game. The defense is second in the league with 12 interceptions and tied for ninth with 19 sacks. Wesley Bailey leads the team and is tied for eighth in the conference with 5 sacks. Antonio Watts has a team-high 3 interceptions with two sacks and 3 pass deflections.

Team notes

  • The run game ranks 22nd overall, averaging 5.1 yards per carry.
  • Freshman kicker Cooper Ranvier is tied for 28th in the nation in scoring, averaging 8.3 points per game.
  • Team is tied for 10th in the country, allowing only 143 first downs this season.
  • The Cardinals rank 28th in the nation, averaging 23.46 yards per punt return.

Clemson vs. Louisville Picks

Spread Pick for Clemson vs. Louisville

  • Clemson +3 (4 units)

Clemson owns an 8-1 SU record in the head-to-head series, but it was just last year when Louisville was able to break the stranglehold. It will be a shortened week, but both teams are dealing with it, and the weather should not be a factor. The Cardinals are ripe for the picking right now as they are still licking their wounds from last weekend. Another loss here could send them spiraling. Their defense allowed Cal to throw for 350 yards against them, which should have Klubnik salivating at the opportunity ahead. Since returning from injury, the Clemson QB has connected on 74.6% of his passes, and he hasn’t been picked off. With the bright lights, the senior has what will likely be his last chance to really shine against a ranked opponent. I’m liking Clemson coming in here and knocking Louisville off their access. The visitors are 6-3 ATS in their last ten games against the Cardinals.

Take the Tigers getting the points.

Over/Under Pick for Clemson vs. Louisville

  • Over 50.5 (5 units)

Last year’s meeting between these two produced a combined 54 points to hit the under against a 62.5-point total. Louisville’s offense is in the top half of the ACC in scoring, and while Clemson is just barely in the bottom half, they’ve really picked up the pace in their last five games, averaging 34.4 each time out. The Tigers have their senior leader back under center, and Klubnik is now looking like the player who was heaped with Heisman praise preseason. Louisville’s passing defense has been the best unit in the conference, but Cal laid down the blueprint for how to beat them on that front, so I’m expecting Clemson to get the ball moving on the road. They average 33.3 points on the road this season. The Cardinals have scored at least 24 points in every game this season and at least 28 in five of them. The over is 5-3 in the last eight games between the teams.

Take the over.
