The Clemson Tigers visit the California Golden Bears at California Memorial Stadium in Berkeley, California, on Friday, September 25, 2026. Kickoff is scheduled for 10:30 PM ET with coverage on ESPN. Clemson enters at 2-1 after consecutive victories over Georgia Southern and North Carolina, while California is also 2-1 and comes into this ACC matchup following a dominant 49-7 victory over Wagner. This will be Clemson’s first conference game on the West Coast and only the second all-time meeting between the programs. At the time of this writing the odds were not released. Clemson Has Stabilized After a Rough Beginning

Clemson’s season began about as poorly as possible with a 51-10 road loss to LSU, but the Tigers have responded. They beat Georgia Southern 22-7 before rallying past North Carolina 28-20 in their ACC opener. That gives Clemson consecutive victories and a chance to move to 2-0 in conference play with a difficult cross-country win.

The improvement on defense deserves attention. Clemson allowed 51 in Baton Rouge but has surrendered only 27 points over its subsequent two games. The Tigers were tested by North Carolina and trailed before a lengthy weather delay, but the second half belonged to Clemson. That ability to respond under adversity is encouraging heading into another unusual situation.

The primary concern is the travel. Clemson is heading from South Carolina to Berkeley for a Friday night game and will be playing a conference contest on the West Coast for the first time in program history. California has already demonstrated that it can produce explosive offense at home, so Clemson cannot afford another slow start.

California Brings Offensive Momentum Into Friday Night

California enters after dismantling Wagner 49-7 in Berkeley. The Golden Bears generated more than 600 yards of offense and scored six touchdowns, producing their most impressive offensive showing of the young season. The level of opposition has to be considered, but the sheer efficiency of the performance makes California dangerous entering Friday.

The Bears will also have a major situational advantage. Instead of traveling across three time zones, California remains at home while Clemson makes one of the longest conference trips possible in the expanded ACC. A 10:30 PM Eastern kickoff also means Clemson will be playing deep into the night according to its normal body clock.

California’s challenge is translating the Wagner performance against a Clemson defense that has improved considerably since Week 1. The Tigers held Georgia Southern to seven and North Carolina to 20. This should tell us considerably more about whether California’s offensive explosion represents a genuine breakthrough.

Clemson vs California Picks and Prediction

Pick: California +3 or Better

This is a matchup where location matters enough to influence the handicap. Clemson has the higher ceiling but must travel across the country for a Friday night conference game against a California team coming off a 49-point performance. Clemson has also failed to dominate either of its last two opponents despite winning both games. If California is getting a field goal or better, I want the home underdog. If the market moves through +3 toward a pick’em, much of that value disappears.

Pick: Under 55.5 or Higher

Clemson’s defensive response since LSU is the strongest argument for the under. The Tigers have allowed only 27 combined points over their last two games, while California now faces a dramatic jump in defensive quality from Wagner. Clemson also has every incentive to keep this controlled rather than engage in a high-tempo shootout on the road. At 55.5 or higher, the under offers the better value.

Final Picks: California +3 or Better and Under 55.5 or Higher
