Blue Hens Searching for a Win

The Delaware Blue Hens were able to get back in the win column as they are coming off a tight 31-28 home win over the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders last time out on October 22nd. The Blue Hens stepped up offensively as the team scored 31 points on 360 total yards of offense (281passing, 79 rushing). Quarterback Nick Minicucci played well throwing the football as he completed 27-of-42 passes for 276 yards with four passing touchdowns. The offense went 9-for-17 on third downs throughout the game to move the ball. The Blue Hens were one-dimensional as the team ran for just 2.2 yards per carry. The offense turned the ball over twice (one interception, one fumble recovery).

The defense was able to get going as the Blue Hens allowed the Blue Raiders to score 28 points on 384 total yards (281 passing, 103 rushing). The defense struggled to get off the field as they were 6-for-14 on third downs and 1-for-1 on fourth downs throughout the game. Delaware forced a fumble and an interception the teamโ€™s only turnovers, but they allowed Middle Tennessee to record 24 first downs.

Minicucci is completing 64.4% of his passes for 2,077 yards with 13 touchdown passes and three picks this season. WR Kyre Duplessis leads the passing attack with 34 catches for 483 yards (14.2 ypc) and four TDs. Delaware has been performing well offensively as they are 64th in the NCAA with 29.1 points per game. The team turned the football over three times (one fumble loss, two interceptions) and was able to move the football at an okay level, going 3-for-10 on third downs.

The defense allowed 27 points on 388 total yards (242 passing, 146 rushing), and the team was 10-for-17 on third downs and converted their only fourth-down attempt against the Flames. The defense was able to come up with a pair of fumble recoveries to make things easier on them, while the Aggies were able to record 6.5 yards per pass as well as 3.8 yards per rushing attempt. New Mexico State also won the time of possession with 33:53.

Ethan Vasko is expected to be the starting quarterback as he is completing 59.1% of his passes for 1,185 yards with six TDs and five picks this season. RB Evan Dickens is leading the rushing group as he has 78 carries for 394 yards (5.1 ypc) and four touchdowns. Delaware Blue Hens at Liberty Flames Pick

Spread Pick for Delaware vs. Liberty

  • Delaware Blue Hens +3.5 (4 units)

These teams have shown the ability to play a close game, and the questionable quarterback situation leaves a lot for the Flames to be desired. Vasko is struggling under center as he has not thrown a touchdown since suffering a shoulder injury last month. In his last game, they threw no touchdowns and two picks, but Liberty found a way to beat New Mexico State. For Delaware, Nick Minicucci has been incredible under center as he has thrown for five touchdown passes in his previous two games. The Blue Hens are dealing with a significant amount of injuries, but this is still something that they should be able to overcome and potentially be favored with a cleaner bill of health. Libertyโ€™s offense has been disastrous when asked to pass the football, so go with the Delaware Blue Hens getting more than a field goal here.

Over/Under Pick for Delaware Blue Hens at Liberty Flames

  • UNDER 52.5 (5 units)

The offense for the Flames has been lacking throughout the season, and this is going to make reaching the 52.5 number difficult. The Flames have scored fewer than 20 points in four of their last five games, which is going to put a lot of pressure on an injured Blue Hens program to move the football in chunks. Delaware is 106th in college football with 32.0 rushing attempts, so this is going to be a more one-dimensional offense that the Flames are going to be able to defend against. Go with UNDER 52.5 POINTS as these teams are not scoring enough this season to really make this a legitimate number these teams could hit in this game.
