The Delaware Fightin’ Blue Hens visit the No. 25 Virginia Cavaliers at Scott Stadium in Charlottesville, Virginia, on Saturday, September 26, 2026. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:00 PM ET. Delaware enters at 2-1 in its second season as an FBS program, while Virginia is coming off a 38-27 loss to West Virginia. This will be the first meeting between the programs. At the time of this writing the odds were not released. Be sure to check out our free college football picks for more NCAAF predictions throughout the season.

Delaware Has Already Shown It Can Compete Up

Delaware enters at 2-1 after opening with a 42-7 victory over Merrimack, losing 35-26 at Vanderbilt and then returning home to beat Coastal Carolina. The most interesting result for handicapping purposes is the Vanderbilt game. Delaware went on the road against an SEC opponent and remained competitive in a nine-point defeat.

That performance matters against Virginia because Delaware is no longer navigating its first season at the FBS level. The Blue Hens went 7-6 in 2025, finished 4-4 in Conference USA and beat Louisiana 20-13 in the 68 Ventures Bowl. They have already demonstrated that the transition to FBS football isn’t overwhelming them.

The challenge is handling another road environment against a Power Four opponent. Delaware needs to avoid turnovers and remain competitive at the line of scrimmage. If the Blue Hens can keep this within one possession into the second half, the pressure begins shifting toward the ranked home favorite.

Virginia Needs a Response at Scott Stadium

Virginia enters this matchup after losing 38-27 to West Virginia in Charlotte. The Cavaliers surrendered enough points to raise defensive concerns, particularly with an improving Delaware program arriving in Charlottesville.

This is an important scheduling spot for Virginia because Florida State waits the following week. Delaware sits between two more prominent games, creating at least the possibility of a flat performance. The Cavaliers cannot assume their ranking or conference affiliation will be enough after Delaware already demonstrated competitiveness at Vanderbilt.

Virginia nevertheless owns the obvious advantages in overall roster depth and home field. The Cavaliers should be able to wear Delaware down if they establish the line of scrimmage early. The betting question is whether they can create enough separation to cover what could become a substantial number.

Delaware vs Virginia Picks and Prediction

Pick: Delaware +14.5 or Better

Delaware’s nine-point road loss at Vanderbilt is enough evidence for me to take the Blue Hens seriously when receiving more than two touchdowns. Virginia is coming off a loss and has Florida State immediately afterward, while Delaware has already proven capable of competing against a Power Four opponent away from home. Getting through +14 is important, so +14.5 or better is the target.

Pick: Over 52.5 or Lower

Virginia just surrendered 38 points, and Delaware scored 26 at Vanderbilt. That gives the Blue Hens a reasonable path to contributing enough offense to this total. Virginia should also have success against a Delaware defense stepping up in class. Something in the 34-24 range fits the matchup and clears a total in the low 50s.

Final Picks: Delaware +14.5 or Better and Over 52.5 or Lower
