East Texas A&M Faces Another Difficult Road Assignment

East Texas A&M opened its season with a 23-15 loss against nationally ranked Mercer before traveling to face another ranked FCS opponent in Stephen F. Austin. The Lions were overwhelmed 44-7 in that matchup, demonstrating the difficulties they can encounter when an opponent establishes a significant physical advantage.

The early schedule does provide East Texas A&M with some experience entering Tulsa. The Lions have already played away from home multiple times and have dealt with strong FCS competition. They shouldn't be intimidated by the environment itself, but Tulsa represents another meaningful increase in overall roster depth.

The Lions need to prevent this from becoming a game where Tulsa consistently creates explosive rushing plays. East Texas A&M's best opportunity is shortening possessions, protecting the football and forcing the Golden Hurricane to methodically move the ball. Giving Tulsa short fields would make an already difficult matchup substantially worse.

Tulsa Is 2-0 for the First Time Since 2015

Tulsa's 23-17 victory at Sam Houston moved the Golden Hurricane to 2-0 for the first time since 2015. The result wasn't a blowout, but it showed Tulsa can win a competitive road game. The Golden Hurricane trailed 14-10 at halftime before scoring 13 unanswered points in the third quarter.

The running game was the difference. Tulsa produced 241 rushing yards and generated touchdown runs of 56 and 81 yards during the third quarter. The defense also delivered when necessary, stopping Sam Houston on fourth down deep in Tulsa territory during the final minutes to preserve the victory.

Saturday represents a significant step down in competition and an opportunity for Tulsa to move to 3-0. The Golden Hurricane don't need to radically change their approach. If they establish the run and avoid turnovers, East Texas A&M should struggle to generate enough offensive possessions to keep pace.

East Texas A&M vs Tulsa Picks and Prediction

Pick: Tulsa -24.5 or Better

Take Tulsa if the spread is -24.5 or better. The Golden Hurricane have already beaten two FBS opponents and now return home against an East Texas A&M team that lost by 37 at Stephen F. Austin. Tulsa's rushing attack should create increasing problems as the game progresses, and anything below four touchdowns provides enough room to back the favorite.

Pick: Under 52.5

Take the Under if the total is set at 52.5 or higher. Tulsa has allowed only 17 points in each of its first two games and should have its easiest defensive assignment of the season. The Golden Hurricane can dominate without needing to score into the 50s. A projected Tulsa 38, East Texas A&M 10 produces a comfortable favorite cover while remaining below the target.

Final Picks: Tulsa -24.5 or Better and Under 52.5
