ETSU Brings an Explosive Offense

ETSU's offense has already shown considerable potential. The Buccaneers accumulated 528 total yards in their 49-37 season-opening loss to Campbell before responding with a 48-14 victory over Tusculum.

Mason Mims threw for 373 yards in his college debut and followed that by completing 13 of 21 passes for 242 yards and three touchdowns against Tusculum. TJ Peyton added 121 rushing yards and two touchdowns on only 11 carries as ETSU finished with 484 total yards.

North Carolina represents an enormous increase in defensive competition, but ETSU has scored 85 points through two games and has enough offensive production to make a five-touchdown spread interesting.

North Carolina Defense Makes an Early Statement

North Carolina opened its season by beating TCU 15-10 in Dublin. The Tar Heels held the Horned Frogs scoreless over the final three quarters after TCU scored 10 points in the opening period.

The victory was built largely around defense and field position rather than an explosive offensive performance. That matters when evaluating a spread above five touchdowns because North Carolina could completely control ETSU without necessarily scoring into the 40s.

The Tar Heels have also had extra preparation time after playing their opener on August 29. They should be well prepared for Mims and the ETSU passing attack.

ETSU vs North Carolina Picks and Prediction

Pick: ETSU +35.5

North Carolina should win comfortably, but ETSU +35.5 is the preferred side. Mims has already thrown for 615 yards across his first two college games, while the Buccaneers have scored 37 and 48 points. UNC's defense represents a major challenge, but the Tar Heels scored only 15 points against TCU. Asking North Carolina to cover more than five touchdowns is aggressive. Take ETSU +35.5.

Pick: Under 51.5

The Under 51.5 fits the matchup. North Carolina held TCU scoreless for three quarters and should be able to slow ETSU considerably, but the Tar Heels haven't demonstrated the offensive explosiveness required to comfortably push this game over by themselves. Something around 35-10 or 38-10 fits the matchup. Take Under 51.5.

Final Picks: ETSU +35.5 and Under 51.5
