FIU vs FAU Picks and Prediction for Saturday September 19 2026

The FIU Panthers travel to Flagler Credit Union Stadium in Boca Raton, Florida, to face the Florida Atlantic Owls on Saturday, September 19, 2026, in the latest edition of the Shula Bowl. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:00 PM ET with coverage on ESPN+. Both teams enter at 1-1, with FIU rebounding from its opening loss to South Florida while FAU responded to its opening defeat at Florida by earning an impressive conference victory over Navy. The Owls are currently 6.5-point favorites with the total set at 62.5. Be sure to check out our free college football picks for more NCAAF predictions throughout the season.

FIU Brings a Dangerous Passing Game to Boca Raton

FIU is 1-1 after beginning the season with a 19-9 loss against South Florida before responding in Week 2. The Panthers have already demonstrated that their offense can generate production through the air, which becomes particularly important in a rivalry game where they may need to keep pace with an FAU offense coming off an explosive performance.

The opening loss to South Florida wasn't disastrous defensively. FIU allowed only 19 points and remained within striking distance for most of the game. That provides some reason to believe the Panthers can make FAU work rather than simply allowing the Owls to repeat what they did against Navy.

The biggest issue is handling the environment and rivalry momentum. FAU is coming home after a significant victory and now gets the Shula Bowl in Boca Raton. FIU needs to avoid allowing the Owls to establish an early two-score advantage. If the Panthers can turn this into an exchange of offensive possessions, getting nearly a touchdown becomes increasingly attractive.

FAU's Offense Broke Out Against Navy

Florida Atlantic's season began with a difficult trip to Florida, but the Owls responded emphatically in their home opener against Navy. FAU's passing attack produced five touchdown passes in the victory, demonstrating the explosive potential that made this offense intriguing entering the season.

That performance matters considerably against FIU because the Panthers may struggle to consistently generate pressure without exposing themselves downfield. FAU has already shown it can create chunk plays through the passing game, and playing at home gives the Owls another advantage in a rivalry where momentum can shift rapidly.

The concern is the total defensive package. FAU's offense can score quickly, but a high-tempo approach can also create additional possessions for FIU. At 6.5 points, the spread requires the Owls to win by a touchdown, and rivalry games often remain tighter than the underlying roster comparison suggests. FAU is my straight-up winner, but the points make FIU interesting.

FIU vs FAU Picks and Prediction

Pick: FIU +6.5

Take FIU +6.5. FAU deserves to be favored after its offensive breakout against Navy, but getting nearly a touchdown in the Shula Bowl provides meaningful value. FIU showed some defensive resistance against South Florida and has enough passing production to answer if FAU turns this into a higher-scoring game. I expect the Owls to have a slight overall edge, but not enough to comfortably lay almost a touchdown in a rivalry matchup.

Pick: Over 62.5

Take the Over 62.5. This is a relatively high number, but both passing games have demonstrated enough production to justify it. FAU is coming off a five-touchdown passing performance, while FIU enters with significant early-season passing production of its own. A projected FAU 35, FIU 31 gives the Owls the outright victory, the Panthers the cover and enough offense to push the game above the total.

Final Picks: FIU +6.5 and Over 62.5
