Florida A&M vs Miami (Fla.) Picks and Prediction for Thursday September 10 2026

By: Kim Smith Published 09/08/2026, 12:00 AM ET

The Florida A&M Rattlers travel to Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida, to face the No. 7 Miami Hurricanes on Thursday, September 10. Kickoff is scheduled for 8:00 PM ET. Miami opened the season with an impressive 45-6 road victory over Stanford, while Florida A&M began its campaign with a 20-7 win over Albany State. The Hurricanes are currently favored by 53.5 points with the total set at 60.5. Miami enters its home opener with a massive talent advantage, but a spread of more than seven touchdowns creates an interesting handicapping challenge. Florida A&M Faces a Major Step Up in Competition

Florida A&M got the result it wanted in its opener, defeating Albany State 20-7, but the offensive performance left plenty of room for improvement. The Rattlers were held to only 70 rushing yards on 32 attempts and struggled to consistently create productive possessions during the first half. That becomes a significant concern against a Miami defense that just held Stanford to six points.

The biggest challenge for Florida A&M will be keeping this game manageable early. The Rattlers cannot afford turnovers, short possessions or repeated three-and-outs that give Miami additional opportunities. Establishing the run would help shorten the game, but averaging just over two yards per rushing attempt against Albany State makes that difficult to project against a much stronger Hurricanes front.

Florida A&M's best path to covering such a huge spread may ultimately come after Miami begins rotating its reserves. If the Rattlers can avoid falling completely out of contention against the number during the first half, the possibility of extensive second-half substitutions gives them a chance to stay inside an enormous spread.

Miami Offense Explodes in Season Opener

Miami couldn't have asked for much more from Darian Mensah in his Hurricanes debut. Mensah completed 27 of 30 passes for 401 yards and five touchdowns as Miami accumulated 549 total yards in its 45-6 victory over Stanford. The Hurricanes also converted eight of 11 third downs and did not allow a sack.

Malachi Toney was equally impressive, catching 12 passes for 234 yards and three touchdowns. His 234 receiving yards established a new Miami single-game record. Toney is coming off a 2025 season in which he recorded 109 receptions for 1,211 yards and 10 touchdowns, giving Mensah one of the most productive receivers in college football.

Miami's defense also did its job, keeping Stanford out of the end zone and forcing seven punts. That defensive performance becomes particularly important against a Florida A&M offense that had trouble running the football against Albany State. Miami should control the line of scrimmage and force the Rattlers to consistently convert difficult passing situations.

Florida A&M vs Miami (Fla.) Picks and Prediction

Pick: Florida A&M +53.5

Miami should dominate this game, but laying 53.5 points is considerably different from asking the Hurricanes simply to win comfortably. Miami has championship aspirations and little reason to leave Mensah, Toney and other important starters on the field deep into a game that could be decided by halftime. Florida A&M's offensive limitations are concerning, but more than seven touchdowns provides substantial room for a late score against Miami's reserves to affect the cover. Take Florida A&M +53.5.

Pick: Under 60.5

The move from an earlier total around 56.5 to 60.5 creates additional value on the Under. Florida A&M managed only 20 points against Albany State and rushed for just 70 yards, while Miami held Stanford to six points. The Hurricanes could score into the 40s without this game reaching the total, particularly if Mario Cristobal reduces the workload of his offensive starters after establishing a comfortable advantage. Something in the neighborhood of 48-7 or 49-7 fits the matchup. Take Under 60.5.

Final Picks: Florida A&M +53.5 and Under 60.5
