Florida State vs Alabama Picks and Prediction for Saturday September 19 2026

By: Kim Smith Published 09/13/2026, 03:27 PM ET

The Florida State Seminoles travel to Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, to face the Alabama Crimson Tide on Saturday, September 19, 2026. This is the marquee matchup of the five games, with Florida State entering a brutal portion of its schedule and Alabama returning home after opening SEC play with a convincing 45-17 victory at Kentucky. The Crimson Tide scored 32 unanswered points in the second half of that victory and now face a Florida State program under considerable pressure to prove it can again compete with the country's elite teams. At the time of this writing the odds were not released. Be sure to check out our free college football picks for more NCAAF predictions throughout the season.

Florida State Faces Its Biggest Test Yet

Florida State entered 2026 under enormous pressure after consecutive losing seasons. The Seminoles needed immediate evidence of improvement, and their early schedule offered opportunities to generate confidence before the difficulty increased dramatically. Alabama represents the point where preseason optimism has to translate into performance against one of the deepest rosters in the country.

The challenge becomes particularly significant on the road. Florida State isn't simply facing Alabama; it is facing the Crimson Tide at Bryant-Denny Stadium immediately after Alabama demonstrated its ability to make major halftime adjustments. Kentucky led Alabama 17-13 at halftime Saturday before the Crimson Tide completely controlled the second half. Florida State therefore needs four quarters of disciplined football rather than simply a strong opening.

The Seminoles' best path is preventing Alabama from establishing its running game and forcing the Crimson Tide into obvious passing situations. Florida State also needs to protect the football because Alabama's defense showed against Kentucky how quickly turnovers can change momentum. If the Seminoles consistently give Alabama short fields, this could become a multi-score game very quickly.

Alabama Showed Its Ability to Adjust and Dominate

Alabama's 45-17 victory at Kentucky was much more impressive than simply looking at the final margin. The Crimson Tide actually trailed 17-13 at halftime after committing offensive mistakes and struggling to establish complete control. Rather than allowing the road environment to become a factor, Alabama responded by scoring 32 unanswered points after halftime.

That second-half performance showed why Alabama remains such a dangerous matchup. The Crimson Tide tightened defensively, forced turnovers and began controlling the game on the ground. Kentucky went just 1-for-13 on meaningful third-down opportunities, making it nearly impossible to sustain possessions once Alabama established momentum.

Returning to Tuscaloosa gives Alabama another substantial advantage. Florida State should be more dangerous than the final score of the Kentucky game suggests the Wildcats were, but the Seminoles must now prove they can handle Alabama's depth for four quarters. If the Crimson Tide produces another strong second half, Florida State could remain competitive early and still lose by multiple touchdowns.

Florida State vs Alabama Picks and Prediction

Pick: Alabama -13.5 or Better

Take Alabama if the Crimson Tide are favored by -13.5 or less. Florida State has an opportunity to show genuine improvement, but this is a massive jump in difficulty and the game is being played in Tuscaloosa. Alabama just demonstrated its ability to overcome a poor first half and completely dominate after halftime, scoring 32 unanswered points at Kentucky. Keeping the number below two touchdowns is important, but at -13.5 or better the Crimson Tide are the preferred side.

Pick: Under 55.5

Take the Under if the total is set at 55.5 or higher. Florida State's best chance to remain competitive involves slowing the game and avoiding the kind of possessions that allow Alabama to create momentum. The Crimson Tide defense should also make it difficult for the Seminoles to consistently finish drives. Alabama doesn't need another 45-point performance to cover. A projected Alabama 34, Florida State 17 gives the Tide a comfortable win while keeping the game below the target.

Final Picks: Alabama -13.5 or Better and Under 55.5
