Florida State trying to finish strong
Following a brutal four-game losing streak, the Seminoles have started to claw their way back to a bit of respectability, winning two of their last three efforts. They were able to balloon a three-point halftime lead against Virginia Tech by outscoring them 24-7 in the second half.
That effort was led by the second-best offense in the ACC, both in scoring (36.4 points per game) and total yards (487.5 yards per game). They boast the top rushing attack in the ACC and ninth ninth-best in the country with 227.7 yards per game. Four players have over 300 rushing yards and Gavin Sawchuck leads the charge with 444 rushing yards and 8 rushing TDs. Tommy Castellanos also has 8 rushing TDs to go with his 12 passing TDs. The QB is second on the team with 404 rushing yards and his 2,317 passing yards rank ninth in the ACC. The team averages 259.8 yards per game via the air. Duce Robinson tops the conference and is fifth in the nation with 947 receiving yards on 49 catches.
The Florida State defense allowed only two touchdowns last weekend and they rank third in the ACC this season, allowing just 20.3 points per game. Their total defense is fourth in the conference, giving up only 322 yards per game. Against the pass, they’ve given up just 196.9 yards and versus the rush, 125.1 yards per game. They are tied for fourth in the ACC with 11 interceptions and tied for fifth with 25 sacks. Earl Little Jr. leads the team with 63 tackles, and his 4 interceptions are second most in the conference. Mandrell Desir leads the ‘Noles with 5 sacks. They will be missing CB Ja'Bril Rawls, who is out for the season with an undisclosed injury.

Season slipping away from N.C. State
The Wolfpack hit a particularly brutal stretch of schedule to fall to this point, going 1-3 SU over a four-game stretch that saw them play three ranked opponents. They are coming off of their worst offensive outing of the season, setting the benchmark for futility on the year with just seven points and 143 total yards.
N.C. State’s offense has scored exactly seven points in two of their last four games and this season they average 30.6 points per game, ninth in the ACC. They are sixth in the conference in total offense, averaging 409 yards per game. Their passing game is averaging 262 yards each time on the arm of CJ Bailey who ranks third in the conference with 2,531 passing yards. The Wolfpack QB has completed 69.4% of his passes and has 19 passing TDs and 5 rushing TDs. Three players have at least 30 catches and seven have at least 22 receptions. On the ground, the ‘Pack average 147 rushing yards per game. Hollywood Smothers returned to the lineup after missing a game. The back is second in the ACC with 863 rushing yards and had 5 TDs on 127 carries.
The defense has been getting bowled over of late and they rank second-to-last in the ACC, allowing 31.6 points per game. They are also 16th in the conference in yardage allowed, 440.4 total yards per game. The Wolfpack have the worst passing defense in the conference, giving up 299 yards, while against the run, they’ve allowed 140.5 yards per game. N.C. State is dead last in the ACC with 14 sacks, and they’ve recorded just 6 interceptions. Caden Fordham leads the team and the conference with 103 tackles, ninth most in the nation. The linebacker is also one of three players with a team-high 2.5 sacks.

Florida State vs. N.C. State Picks
Spread Pick for Florida State vs N.C. State
- Florida State -4.5 (5 units)
These two haven’t met since 2022, a game N.C. State won by two at home. The Wolfpack’s defense has been failing the team miserably of late, allowing an average of 43.3 points over their last three games. While their offense has at times been able to keep pace with some of those high-scoring teams, they struggled against Miami’s top defense last weekend. Facing another Top 5 ACC defense, they are going to struggle to score, though I do think they’ll move the ball well. The Seminoles' pressure up front is going to push Bailey into pulling the ball down, which is going to slow the ‘Packs chances. This should also be a good chance for Castellanos to sit back in the pocket and air it out against the worst passing defense in the conference.
Take the Seminoles giving the points.
Over/Under Pick for Florida State vs. N.C. State
- Under 61.5 (5 units)
This matchup has two top-half scoring offenses in the ACC going toe-to-toe, each of them averaging over 30 points per game this season. However, the Wolfpack’s number, 30.6 per game, is a bit inflated thanks to just a couple of major offensive efforts. In their last four games they scored seven points twice. Miami set a blueprint on how to stop them last week and Florida State has a defense that should be able to follow suit. N.C. State is going to struggle to score once again. Florida State is going to have a much easier path to the endzone, however, I don’t see them scoring near enough to carry what is needed in this matchup. The under is 7-3 in the last ten meetings.
Take the under.
