Rivalries, tempo, trenches — NCAAF picks for Fresno State Bulldogs at Hawai'i Rainbow Warriors.

Bulldogs on the Attack

The Fresno State Bulldogs were able to dominate with a 56-7 at home against the FCS Southern Jaguars last week. The offense was able to march down the field consistently as they recorded 56 points on 507 total yards (282 passing, 225 rushing). They were able to move the chains as they were 8-for-10 on third downs and recorded 31 first downs as a team. They were also able to run the ball at an incredible rate, averaging 5.5 yards per rushing attempt. E.J. Warner (Kurt's son) is comleting 72.4% of his passes for 716 yards with four TDs and five picks.

The defense stepped up as they gave up seven points on just 142 total yards (131 passing, 11 rushing) in the game. The defense was not able to force a turnover, but held the Jags to 0.4 yards per carry and recorded only seven first downs throughout the four quarters.

Fresno State’s offense has done a solid job so far as they are 53rd in college football with 35.3 points per game. Their defense has been pretty similar as their 19.80 points per game allowed ranks tied for 63rd in the nation.

Warriors Showing Strength

The Hawaii Rainbow Warriors are looking to continue their excellence from their last game, as they won at home against the FCS Portland State Vikings 23-3. Hawaii scored 23 points on 357 total yards of offense (250 passing, 107 rushing). The offense was able to move the chains as they were 9-of-19 on third downs and converted their singular fourth-down try. QB Micah Alejado is completing 64.3% of his passes for 367 yards with two TDs and one pick. However, he has missed the last two games against Sam Houston State (37-20) and Portland State, but is expected to return for this one.

The defense looked phenomenal as they held Portland State to three points on 230 total yards of offense (189 passing, 41 rushing). The defense was able to force an interception while not allowing the Vikings to run the football, averaging just 1.8 yards per attempt.

The Hawaii Rainbow Warriors have been unable to score points on a consistent basis, as they are 103rd in the nation with 22.3 points per game. Their defense has been closer to the average in DI football as they are giving up 20.8 points, which is 67th so far.

Fresno State Bulldogs at Hawai'i Rainbow Warriors Pick

Spread Pick for Fresno State vs. Hawai'i

  • Hawaii Rainbow Warriors +120 (5 units)

Looking at the betting odds, this may not look like a good bet, but it is. Hawaii is 3-1 in their last four games against Fresno State, dating back to 2020 and won last year in Fresno 21-20. Fresno State needing to travel all the way to Hawaii also makes this game a lot tougher than it originally looks. Hawaii’s biggest weakness is ball security and Fresno State has only committed three takeaways this season, so the threat is not as prevalent here. All in all, go with the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors to win as a home underdog for this game.

Over/Under Pick for Fresno State vs. Hawai'i

  • UNDER 48.5 (4 units)

This number does not seem to be huge, but the ineffectiveness in the passing game by E.J. Warner and Luke Weaver makes things more difficult. These defenses are also coming off Week 3 performances where they allowed a combined 10 points, meaning they can dominate here on that side of the football. Both programs also defend the running game at a respectable level as Hawaii is giving up 3.8 yards per carry while Fresno State is at 3.7 yards on the ground per attempt. Take UNDER 48.5 POINTS to hit as the better bet here.
