Georgia gets back on track
A week after falling to No. 17 Alabama, the Bulldogs were able to brush things off and get back to winning, improving to 2-1 SU in the SEC. Against Kentucky, they did all of their scoring over the first three quarters as the offense went for 425 yards and 26 first downs. The defense forced two turnovers and allowed only 270 yards and 19 first downs.
Georgia’s scoring offense ranks eighth in the SEC, averaging 34.6 points per game. Yardage has come at a clip of 438.6 total yards per game, also eighth in the conference. They possess the fifth-best rushing game in the SEC, averaging 206.8 yards per game. Four players have at least 142 rushing yards and Chauncey Bowens tops the back with 310 yards on 56 carries. The Bulldogs’ pass attack averages 231.8 yards per game. Gunner Stockton has completed 68.9% of his passes for 1,047 yards, six touchdowns and an interception. He's also rushed for 194 yards and a team-high five touchdowns. Colbie Young and Zachariah Branch each have 18 catches and over 200 receiving yards.
The team also ranks eighth in the conference on the defensive end, allowing 18.4 points and 313.2 total yards per game. They’ve fared well against the run, allowing just 84 yards per game, the fourth-best mark in the SEC. Versus the pass, the Bulldogs have seen 231.2 yards go against them per game. They have recorded seven sacks and intercepted four passes. CJ Allen leads the team with 36 tackles and has two sacks and two pass deflections. Chris Cole has a team-high three sacks as part of his 19-tackle tally.

Auburn stumbles in conference play
The Tigers enjoyed a 3-0 SU start to their season before reaching conference play, where they’ve thus far come across two ranked opponents. Last week’s loss at No. 9 Texas A&M was an impressive effort by the defense, despite allowing 414 yards in the loss. However, the offense had its lowest scoring output of the year and had just 177 yards.
Auburn’s scoring offense ranks 12th in the SEC with an average of 27.6 points per game. Their 342.2 total yards is the third fewest in the conference and their 173.2 passing yards are the second fewest. Jackson Arnold completed 64.9% of his passes for 846 yards and five touchdowns. He’s also been sacked 20 times. Arnold’s top target has been Eric Singleton Jr., who had 27 catches for 265 yards and 2 TDs. The Tigers’ rushing game is bringing 169 yards per game to the table. Jeremiah Cobb is sixth in the SEC with 403 rushing yards, and he has found the end zone four times.
The defense of the Tigers has allowed 16.4 points per game, the sixth-best mark in the SEC. They are giving up 315.6 total yards and just 88 yards per game against the run. Their passing defense is 12th in the conference, allowing 227.6 yards per game. Their 16 sacks are fifth in the league, accompanied by two interceptions. Xavier Atkins leads the team with 29 tackles and has three sacks, an interception, and a forced fumble. Keyron Crawford is third on the team with 20 tackles and first with four sacks.
Game notes
- The team has lost only one fumble through five games.
- The Tigers are 16th in the country with 38 tackles for loss.
- Cam Coleman has 255 receiving yards and averages 15 yards per reception.
- Alex McPherson is a clean 18-18 PATs and 4-4 FGs.
Georgia vs. Auburn Picks
Spread Pick for Georgia vs. Auburn
- Georgia -3.5 (5 units)
The Deep South’s oldest rivalry commences for the 130th meeting between the schools. Georgia owns a 65-56-8 SU in the series, and they’ve won eight straight games against the Tigers. Last season’s meeting saw the Bulldogs walk away with an 18-point lead as 21-point favorites. The line is a lot tighter this time around, a nod to Auburn’s efforts in their two losses versus ranked opponents, which came by an average of just 6.5 points per game. The Tigers like to run the ball and that is a problem in this matchup. Georgia has an excellent rushing defense, and they are going to focus their efforts on Cobb not beating them. Auburn’s rushing defense is just as strong, but 10th-ranked Georgia possesses a better passing attack, and that will be the difference. The Bulldogs are 7-3 ATS in the last ten games against Auburn.
Take Georgia giving the points.
Over/Under Pick for Georgia vs. Auburn
- Under 46.5 (5 units)
Last season’s meetup had a combined 44 points scored, hitting the under against a 51-point total. The two offenses in this matchup are in the bottom two-thirds of the SEC in terms of scoring, but still average a combined 62.2 points per game. However, Auburn has struggled against the strong defenses of the SEC, averaging just 13.5 points per game. They are up against a solid Georgia defense that focuses heavily on the run, which is the Tigers bread-and-butter. Over the last eight games against the Bulldogs, Auburn scored under 14 points on six occasions. Georgia has their number. I also expect the Bulldogs to be slowed on the offensive end, since Auburn also does well versus the run. The under is 7-3 in the last ten games between the teams.
Take the under.
