The Georgia Southern Eagles travel to Memorial Stadium in Clemson, South Carolina, to face the Clemson Tigers on Saturday, September 12. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 PM ET on ACC Network. Georgia Southern enters at 1-0 following a 31-0 victory over Charleston Southern, while Clemson is 0-1 after suffering a 51-10 loss at No. 11 LSU. Clemson is currently favored by 23.5 points with the total set at 56.5. Before placing your wagers, check out our free college football picks for more predictions throughout the season.

Georgia Southern Defense Dominates Its Opener

Georgia Southern couldn't have asked for a much better start, shutting out Charleston Southern 31-0. The Eagles scored 21 points in the opening quarter and essentially put the game away before halftime.

The Georgia Southern defense was outstanding. Charleston Southern finished with only 110 total yards, including an incredible eight rushing yards, while managing nine first downs. The Eagles recorded six sacks and forced two turnovers in their first shutout since 2023.

Max Johnson guided the offense as Georgia Southern established control early and didn't need to take many risks once it built a commanding advantage. That conservative second half makes the 31 points somewhat deceptive because the Eagles had little reason to continue pushing the tempo.

Clemson obviously represents an enormous increase in competition, but Georgia Southern enters with confidence while the Tigers must recover mentally and physically from a disastrous trip to Baton Rouge.

Clemson Returns Home After Humbling Defeat

Clemson's season opener couldn't have gone much worse. The Tigers suffered a 51-10 loss at No. 11 LSU, the largest defeat of the Dabo Swinney era.

Clemson actually scored first on a 49-yard Nolan Hauser field goal, but LSU eventually overwhelmed the Tigers. Clemson's offense struggled to create sustained production, and the Tigers entered the fourth quarter without a touchdown before David Eziomume finally scored on an 11-yard run.

Quarterback Christopher Vizzina struggled to consistently move the offense against LSU's defense, while freshman Tait Reynolds also saw action. T.J. Moore did extend his streak of consecutive games with a reception to 28 and surpassed 1,500 career receiving yards.

This is an obvious bounce-back opportunity. Clemson returns to Death Valley for its home opener and gets a significant reduction in competition, but laying more than three touchdowns with an offense coming off a 10-point performance creates an interesting handicapping decision.

Georgia Southern vs Clemson Picks and Prediction

Pick: Georgia Southern +23.5

Georgia Southern +23.5 is my preferred side. Clemson should win and may win comfortably, but asking the Tigers to cover more than three touchdowns immediately after a 51-10 loss is aggressive. Georgia Southern's opening opponent was nowhere near Clemson's level, but holding any opponent to 110 yards and eight rushing yards demonstrates that the Eagles arrived ready to play defensively. Clemson needs to prove its offense can create sustained separation before I lay this kind of number. Take Georgia Southern +23.5.

Pick: Under 56.5

The Under 56.5 is my preferred total. Georgia Southern's defense was dominant in Week 1, while Clemson managed only 10 points at LSU. Clemson should have substantially more success at home, but something around 35-14 or 38-14 would give the Tigers a convincing rebound without reaching the total. Georgia Southern doesn't need to completely stop Clemson for this Under to cash. Take Under 56.5.

Final Picks: Georgia Southern +23.5 and Under 56.5
